 Early Wednesday morning a
continuous rain fell until
approximately 9 PM. Over 1.7"
was recorded at the Lawrence
airport. This inspection was
conducted about 6:30 PM on
Wednesday as rain continued to
fall.
There was some small runoff
from. the East Collection Area at
the Diversion swale. This runoff
was almost entirely from the
hillside drainage since there was
very little flow from the U-block
wall snider drain. This runoff was
clear at the CA, There was no
sign of runoff at the West CA into
the Inland Flood Mitigation Area.
There was a moderate clear flow
from the Underground Detention System through the Water Quality outlet. There was no flow from the By-pass pipe
of the UDS.There was a low clear flow out of the Roadside Flood mitigation Area to the Route 114 culvert. At the
Route 114 headwall the flow was clear to the wetland pond.
Rpt#88
Rpt#88 Page 2 of 5
The Inland FMA had shallow surface water but no sign of inflow and the ponded water was well below the outlet
invert. There was no indication of ponded water at the small entrance road CA,therefore,no runoff from this source.
There was no indication of erosion from the entire site. The hillside slopes continue to fill-in with vegetation. The
route t Iel shoulder grate below the parking lot segmented retaining wall is partly blocked and should be cleaned of
debris.

EROSION CONTROL STATUS:
1. The landscaping around the building continues to grow well
2. The outlet culvert from the roadside flood mitigation had a low clear flow and the FMA had a
shallow pond,The vegetation in the FMA appears lush,
3. The inlet flow at the Route 114 headwalt was clear,
4. The small collection area at entrance road culvert showed no sign of standing water or runoff from
this source.
5. The Inland Flood Mitigation Area basin has a shallow water level well below the outlet invert.
6. The loam stockpile area vegetation is becoming more evident throughout the area and now appears to
becoming substantially stable from storms of this intensity. There was some small puddling at the
bottom of loam pile slope and above the hillside slope the puddling was clear indicating that the loam
pile area itself is stable with this intensity storm.
7. There was no further indication of erosion on the entrance way side slopes. The now existing hillside
small rivulets themselves are becoming stable with small stones and vegetation in the channels,
8. The U-block wall landscaped areas are stable. The vegetation is now quite lush. The critical end areas
have no erosion.

Report #86 concerns the strong
thunderstorms which moved
through the area between 3 and
5:30 PM on Tuesday. During this
tine over 3/4" fell and by 8AM the
&> • next morning 1.2"had fallen.
This investigation was conducted
% . around 7PM on Tuesday right
after the heaviest rainfall, There
was no offsite runoff from the east
side of the site except for the
small flow of the underdrain from
the U-block Wall. There was off
site flow from the Inland Flood
Mitigation Area. This was from
the areas feeding the Underground
k Detention System, There was
k stem that enough runoff to this s
g Y
' there was an outfalt from the UDS
By-pass pipe and a strong flow from the Water Quality Unit pipe. This means that there was enough water in UDS
to be at least L5 feet above the inlet to WQU at Drain MH#8. The standing water in the Inland FMA had a light
clouded appearance which flowed out at about'/s depth in the 15"lower outfall pipe.
Rpt#86
Rpt#86 Page 2 of 4
The Inland FMA had a shallow pond which was not high enough to flow out.The wetland mitigation area still has
partly flooded areas with clear water. There was no observed runoff into the wetlands.
The old loam stockpile area is becoming more stable and there is even some vegetation beginning in the central third
of the area. The rainfall intensity was enough that there were some signs of rivulets and small channels forming oil
the entrance roadway slopes, There was no sign of eroded material from these rivulets reaching the small collection
area at the entrance road culvert.
There was not enough runoff from the Route 114 shoulder to cause outflow at the small entrance road CA.however
a more substantial stone lined channel remahis to he provided from the Route 11.4 shoulder to the basin of this small
CA. The Route 114 shoulder CB remains clear. The outfall at the Route 114 headwall had a slightly cloudy slow
flow to the pond below.

L The landscaping around the building continues to grow well
2. The outlet culvert from the roadside flood mitigation area had a lightly clouded outflow. The lower
pipe was about r/a high to the Route 114 culvert. The inflow to the Roadside FMA is from the
Underground Detention System. This inflow is from both the By-pass pipe and the pipe from the
Water Quality Unit. The outlet invert for the By-pass pipe is 1.5' above the WQU pipe invert. This is
the first time I observed flow from the By-pass. This flow was low and slightly clouded. The flow
from the WQU was strong.
3. The inlet flow at the Route 114 headwall was slightly clouded. It appears that this slightly clouded
flow is from the UGDS By-pass.

on Saturday around noon and was
over by about Sunday 7 AM. At the
Lawrence Airport 1.6" were
=. reported following the 0.9"that fell
on Ffiday's thunderstorms.
The hillside woodlands are now
more saturated but there was still no
observed runoff to the perimeter
:tea Diversion Swale. I expect this is
bt partly due to the heavy
undergrowth in the adjacent woods.
There was a small flow at the East
Collection Area caused by the
r continuing slight flow from the U-
block Wall underdrain.This caused
1 a small clear flow to the Route 114
culvert.
Both the Flood Mitigation Areas now had a shallow level of water in their basins. The water was not high enough to
flow out of the hrland FMA but there was a low clear flow out of the Roadside FMA to the Route 114 culvert. This
low flow is due to the out flow from the Underground Detention System through the Water Quality outfall.

This report concerns the
;., heavy thunderstorm and
high winds which moved
through the area on Friday
(I afternoon. The winds
N+ knocked down trees and
branches around the site
and there were local power
3d l , outages. I saw no tree
da€Wage at the site itself.
Over '/z" of rain fell in less
than 15 minutes between
5:30 and 5:40 PM at the
Lawrence Airport. I saw
(on weather radar) that the
storm cell went thru the site
also. Rahn tapered off
thereafter and a light rain
fell until about midnight
with a total rain fall of 0.9"
for the 24 hour period. This
inspection was conducted
around 1PM on Saturday as light rain began to fall again from advancing hurricane Arthur.

There was a small flow from the U-black Wall underdrain to the Fast Collection Area. This flow ran clear and out to
the Route 114 culvert. This was the only flow observed leaving the site. There was a small flow from the
Underground Detention System thru the Water Quality Unit pipe to the roadside Flood Mitigation Area. However,
this flow was being infiltrated so that there was no outflow from the FMA, The basin of the FMA was dry. The
headwall at the Route 114 culvert had clear water flowing towards the pond on the north side of Route 114 with
vibrant growth along the banks of the stream.
There was no further sign of erosion in the old loam stockpile area. The center 1/3"j of this area remains with sparse
growth but is slowly beginning to vegetate. It does appear to be vulnerable to a very large storm with significant
runoff from the hillside above. The other 213`a of the area is continuing to vegetate. The cutoff swale has moderate
vegetation and seems adequate to handle potentially large storm runoff.
The U-block Wall terraces have thick growth and there is no sign of erosion. There was no surface flow observed in
the Diversion Swale. Therefore, there was no flow to the Inland FMA. The FM basin was dry. There was no
standing water in the Wetland Mitigation area and the area has thick vegetation.
There was no evidence of runoff from the small collection area at the entrance road culvert. However a more
substantial stone lined channel remains to be provided from the Route 114 shoulder to the basin of this snial I CA.

Wetland Mitigation Area Vulnerable to erosion Route 114 shoulder
EROSION CONTROL STATUS:
1, The landscaping around the building continues to grow well
2. The outlet culvert from the roadside flood mitigation area is dry. There is a small clear inflow to this
MA from the Underground Detention Area via the outlet from the water quality unit. However, the
basin of the MA is dry.
3. The inlet at the Route 114 shoulder has been cleared.
4. The outlet berm before the entrance road flared end section has been rebuilt. The eroded channel was
filled with a string of stones but a better defined erosion control lined channel should be constructed
from the Route 114 shoulder down the embankment to the bottom of the small collection area at the
entrance road culvert. This comment is a repeat from the last r4eport,
5. At the Route 114 culvert headwall the flow into the wetlands is clear,
6. The Inland Flood Mitigation Area basin is dry.
7. The loam stockpile area vegetation is becoming more evident in the west and eastern thirds of the
area but the middle third is still sparse but is beginning to fill in. This area is becoming less
vulnerable to erosion as it continues to slowly stabilize.
8. There is no apparent additional erosion of the entrance way side slopes and they have growing
vegetation and seem stable.
9. The U-block wall landscaped areas are stable. The critical end areas have no erosion.
10. The Diversion Swale had no sign of flow at either end.
11. The cutoff Swale is growing in well. The hillside swale above it continues to naturally form a stone
channel to the cutoff Swale.
12, The wetland mitigation area has no standing water and the vegetation in the WMA is lush.
13. There is a low clear flow from the Underground Storage System through the Outlet Control Unit. The
roadside Flood Mitigation Area remains dry and there is no flow out to the Route 114 culvert.
14. The roadside slopes between the Route 114 shoulder and the segmented retaining wall are well
covered with vegetation.
15. The inland FMA has no water cover,
16, The roadway and turf inlets are all clear.
