Attendance:

Absent: Lucius Michel {Vice-Chair}
Others Present: Kathy Shelp, Director of Elder Services, Cahla Ahlstrom, Outreach Manager/Assistant Director
Call to order: 9:00 AM
Roll call by Dave VanArsdale
Minutes: September minutes motion to approve by Eileen, seconded by Priscilla. Unanimously approved by the
council.
Advocacy Sub-committee Update, Dave VanArsdale:
· Sub-committee to get together when Luke returns.
Update from Kathy Shelp:
· Participation up almost 50% but we are down 2 staff members which we are looking to fill.
· Outside groups also using the Senior Center:
o “The Club” to be meeting in the Senior Center which will be a Friday night social. Open to families with disabled adult
children.
o North Andover Women’s Club
· There was a relatively high percentage of survey responses. We now wait for results – expecting sometime around
January
.Looking to double the amount of exercise classes in the new year.
· SHINE is starting, an in-person counselor will be here every other Friday. Call-in appointments are also available.
· The Conference on Aging will be May 3 & 4, 2024.
· October 2024: Trip being coordinated by Joan called Three Capitals. Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. About $4,000
which includes airfare, breakfast, hotels, and some dinners and lunches. Bus and tour guide. 11 Days. Flyers available
informational sessions.
· Thanksgiving at Stevens Estate, 180 seats provided. Sold out with a waiting list, but it’s encouraged to add yourself to
the list. Police will also do some homebound senior meal delivery.

· No update on the accreditation process, but informally sounds like the center passed and more information will be
coming through in time.
· Zumba is a big hit with many new participants at each class.
General Discussion:
· Have a nurse come in to discuss CBD and THC options. The ins and outs, dangers, and benefits.
Adjournment at 9:43 A.M. Maria motion to adjourn, Jen seconded. Unanimously agreed.
