HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-03-13 Historical Commission Minutes North Andover Historical Commission March 13, 2024 meeting Present: Ron Rudis(chairperson), Jay Dowd,Jim Wefer, Stan Limpert, Kathy Szyska,Anne Ericson 1. Meeting called to order at 5:00 pm. 2. Lindsey Mayo,Development Coordinator for the North Andover Historical Society presented the CPC application for the North Andover Citizen Newspaper Digitization project. Dowd made a motion, seconded by Wefer to recognize the historical and cultural significance of the Citizen Newspaper to North Andover. Approved 5-0 with Limpert abstaining. 3. The Commission discussed the North Andover Middle School historical bell CPC application. The Commission felt that it did not have enough information to determine the historical significance of the bell. The Commission tabled the discussion pending ongoing research. 4. Correspondence a. The Commission discussed an email from Annika Hymlo inviting board members to participate in a documentary about Elizabeth Johnson Jr. Szyska, Dowd and Wefer volunteered to meet with the documentary crew. b. Shawsheen River Watershed Based Plan —Commission members are free to volunteer. 5. The Commission discussed the potential damage that the trees at the Old Burial Ground could cause. Rudis made a motion seconded by Dowd to authorize removal of the trees. Approved 6-0. 6. The Commission continued discussion of the deterioration of the Colonel James Frye house. Dowd will draft a letter to the town detailing the Commission's concerns which will be reviewed at a future meeting. 7. Limpert made a motion seconded by Wefer to approve the February 12, 2024 meeting minutes. Approved 6-0.
