Et.ify; In response to your query about the installation of a water main in John A MaLay's subdivision on Turnpike Street, please be advised as follows* The Planning Board did not negate the Board of Public Workag recommendation for an eight-inch water main Instead of a six-inch water main. The Planning Board inadvertently signed the plan before causing the change of water main size to be shown. One condition of approval of the plan is that the requirements of the Board of Public Works must be met, Mr. MdLay has bean advioed verbally and by letter that$ in accordance vith the above condition, an AL44-inch water main muut be i1al- stalled. He has also been reqpested to change his plan to specify an eishb-inch main and submit the changed plan to the Planni, Board for filing and distribution. Re: McLay Development Dear Sir: I will be unable to make any recommendations in accordance with your letter of September 14, 1971 for the following reasons: (1) No request was made for me to make an inspection until after the work was completed. I should have be requested to make cm inspection when the sub grade was ready for gravel, when gravel was being placed, when the gravel was ready for the placing of bituminous material and during the placing of bituminous material. (2) In order for me- to make recommendations cores of the bituminous will.. have -to be taken, and tests of the depth of gravel and compaction will have to be made. When this has been completed and the results forwarded to me I will then make recommendations. (3) There is a head wall of loose concrete blocks which should be either of poured concrete or rubble and should be constructed according to Mass. Dept. of Public Works Sppcifications. (4) T was unable to find one stone bound. (5) Corrections should be made in the construction of some of the catch basins. Please have fir. McLay notify me when he has made the necessary arrangements.
