Review of plans and a site inspection will be scheduled in the near future and a. more detailed commentary sent to your Board at that time. Kwcver, we would like to bring to your attention certain soil data, pertain- ing to this site. Based on information provided to the town by the Soil. Conserva- tion Service, it appears that the site consists of two soil types: 1 . Woodbridge - located in the east section of the site. 2. Ridgebur'y - located in the west :section (Acushnet St. and west segment of Cotuit St. "The Woodbridge Series are moderately well-drained soils developed in compact, stony glacial till. They have a fine sandy loam surface soil and subsoil that has moderate or moderately rapid permeability. The subsoilris underlain, at about 18 inches, by a slowly permeable hardpan.. . During wet seasons;, or other prolonged rainy periods, the water table is usually within A to 2 feet of the surface." (soil. Survey, 1971 ) "The Ridgebury Series are poorly drained soils formed in compact, stony glacial till.. . ..These soils are saturated with water for 7 to 9 months of the year by surface run-off and seepage water from adjacent higher land or by a fluctuating water table at or close to the surface." (Soil. Survey, 1971) November 18, 1974 —2— Pleaf o note the enclosed tables and air photo taken from the Soil Survey indicating -the site limitations for these types of soil. The Acushnet St, aroa appearG to have very severe limitations for the type of construction proposed. We hope you will t,-.,)ke this into consideration in .uiy action you take on these plans. CYR TRI.EPHOm; 683-2234 HIGHWAY SURVEYOR November 18, 1974 William Chepulis Planning Board 120 Main Street North Andover, Mass. Re: Canterbury Villiage Dear Bill.: I have walked the site of this proposed subdivision and I find this area extremely wet with surface water draining through numerous old drainage ditches that run through the site. The day I toured the site there was water running in all these ditches and we did not have rain .for several days prior to this . Due to these wet conditions I recommend that basins should be added at the entrance of Peter and Brewster Streets on Acushnet where it intersects with Cotuit Street, where Cotuit Street abuts the existing Cotuit Street. I also feel that the rest of the drainage as layed out at approximately hOo foot intervals is not sufficient to handle the amount of water on this type of subdivision. This is especially true with all the parking areas that will be dumping a large volume of water on these streets. I would suggest in a subdivision of this type, that we should possibly double up on our existing subdivision rules and regulations and require that basin's be installed at 2,;huddred fool; intervals instead of four hundred to accommodate the amount of water we could expect on this subdivision. As to the drainage ditch that now runs through this area on its present course, I would say that about 50% of our surface water 2rom our West drainage area presently flows through this stater course, on through what I call the Cotuit Street culvert on Waverly Road. I think we should be very cautious about any judgement we make on reestablishing this drainage ditch. I v:i.11 be at the meeting Monday night and I feel that we could discuss these subjects more thoroughly at that time. JVery truly yours, William A. Cyr Highway Surveyor WAC/cc i I 1 JO®EPH W.
