HomeMy WebLinkAboutAbutter opposition letter - Reynolds - Correspondence - 180 HIGH STREET 5/12/2025 Mrs. Sharon T. Reynolds 182 High Street North Andover,MA 01845 May 12, 2025 To the Members of the Zoning Board: I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed conversion of the single-family home at 180 High Street,North Andover into a two-family dwelling. As a direct neighbor and long-time resident of this area, I have serious concerns about the impact such a change would have on our neighborhood. The property at 180 High Street has not been consistently well cared for in recent years. The current owner previously allowed groups of college students to reside there, despite the home not being zoned for that type of use. This led to noticeable increases in noise, congestion, and a decline in the property's overall appearance. Given this history, I have concerns about whether the proposed renovation would be carried out in a responsible or timely manner. There is a risk that the project could be disorganized or left incomplete, creating further disruption for nearby residents. There are also serious concerns about parking. High Street has recently been reconfigured with new sidewalks, limiting roadside parking. Perley Road, the cross street,is already heavily congested. From what I can observe, the owner does not appear to have adequate on-site parking to accommodate a two-family dwelling, which would place additional pressure on an already strained situation. While a few multi-family homes do exist in this area, they are primarily historical properties that have been part of the neighborhood's legacy for generations. Converting existing single-family homes into multi-family use would represent a significant shift in the neighborhood's character and could set a troubling precedent for future development. For these reasons, I respectfully urge the board to deny the request for zoning approval at 180 High Street. Sincerely, Mrs. Sharon T. Reynolds 182 High Street,North Andover
