Present: Ron Rudis (chair),Jim Wefers, Stan Limpert,Anne Lafond
Absent:Jay Dowd
1. Meeting called to order at 5:02 pm.
2. The Commission discussed the demolition permit application for the barn at 169 Chestnut Street.
The point was made that unlike the residence at the same address delaying demolition of the barn
would unlikely result in the structure being saved.Though the barn is over 100 years old the
Commission did not feel that there was historical significance related to the structure. Limpert made
a motion, seconded by Lafond to notify the building commissioner that the barn is not of historical
significance. Approved 4-0.
3. Jim Wefer updated the Commission on his research on the large bell found during the recent
construction at the Middle School.The bell was cast in 1864 and was damaged by fire the same year
that the Merrimack School burned. It was recast in 1914.There was general agreement that the bell
was likely originally part of the original Merrimack School.
4. The Chair provided the Commission with an update on the Historical Preservation Plan,the current
plan is to finalize the Plan and present it to the Select Board at their October 6 meeting.
5. Stan Limpert provided the Commission with an update on the Schofield Mill.The town is reviewing
an RFP for a consultant to assess historical preservation options.
6. Stan Limpert provided the Commission with an update on the historical house plaque project, it is
likely to be rolled out by the end of the calendar year.
7. The Commission discussed removing trees from the Old Burial Ground to protect the headstones
around the trees.The chair will contact town counsel,town manager and the DPW Director to assess
options, including a potential CPC application for funds.
8. Limpert made a motion, seconded by Wefers to approve the June 4 2025 meeting minutes.
Approved 4-0.
9. Limpert made a motion, seconded by Lafond to approve the August 6 2025 meeting minutes.
Approved 4-0.
10. Meeting adjourned at 5:41 pm
