Re:Franklin School - proposed modular classroom addition
In accordance with Article 8, Part 3 Site Plan Review, Section 195-8.11.D, the North Andover
School District is requesting a Waiver of Site Plan Review for the project detailed below. We
believe this project will not significantly impact the site, adjacent properties, or public
infrastructure regarding traffic, environmental resources, or community needs.
The district proposes relocating a modular classroom building from the Kittredge School to the
Franklin School at 2 Cypress Drive. To accommodate this, two existing temporary classroom
structures at the Franklin School will be demolished. The new modular addition (approximately
3,700 s.f.) is roughly equal in size to the combined area of the current and previously
demolished units.
Key project details include:
- Traffic and Parking: Existing parking and drive configurations will remain unchanged, with no
anticipated increase in vehicular traffic.
- Utilities: The addition will be served by existing utility systems (water, sewer, storm drains,
electrical, and gas) with no impact on capacity.
- Site Impact: The single-story structure is similar in stature to the existing units and will remain
screened from abutters by existing landscaping.
Fully engineered design documents are currently in development, with bidding scheduled for
April 2026. Construction is intended to run from July 1, 2026, to September 1, 2026. Please
note that this timeline is contingent upon capital funding approval at the May 2026 town
meeting.
