RIJ: Important Notice Regarding Your Septic System and Garbage Disposal
Dear Property Owner:
Please note that due to a recent review of a Title V Report, your property has been identified as
maintaining a working garbage disposal that is being used in conjunction with a septic system.
The North Andover Health Department strongly advises against using a garbage disposal with a
septic system, as it can significantly jeopardize the system's longevity. While some septic
systems are specifically designed to handle the additional waste from disposals, your current
system may not be adequately equipped.
Continued use of the garbage disposal increases the risk of premature septic system failure,
which could necessitate a costly replacement. Therefore, the Health Department recommends
that you remove the garbage disposal from your home as soon as possible.
Information regarding regular maintenance of your septic system is included for your reference.
