Dear Ms, Enright,
My family Ellen [Murphy and.myself)are in the process of receiving an older home from the location at
86 Salem Street.we will be required to move this existing home from its current location to a lot we
are purchasing located at 170 Salem Street..The current Decision-Definitive Subdivision Plan petioned.by
166 Salem Street Realty Trust dated March 16,2009 stipulates under item 7(Section.Prior To The
Issuance of A Certificate of occupancy)that"the.homes built on lots 1A and 3 must be equipped with a
home sprinkler system that will be installed according to current building code standards.The sprinkler
systems must be. inspected and approved by the North Andover Fire Department".
We are requesting an exception to'this requirement as an insubstantial change given that we are moving
an existing home which is complete from-the perspective of existing walls,sheet rock,wall paper,I finish
wood, etc;To install a sprinkler system into this existing as built home will cost(estimate !n excess of
$25,000 and Mould have all lines exposed into the living areas.We acknowledge that the lines could be
hidden in Soffits but the extent of that solution would detract from the current.historical appeal we are
looking to maintain. If an exception to this provision can not be achieved the cost and aesthetic
detraction Will alter our decision to relocate the existing home from 136 Salem Street,This is a choice
we do not want to make as compliance Mould.compromise the integrity of the historic period we are
f looking to maintain.
