Dear Mr. Dever:
Staff ofthe Massachusetts Historical Commission M C have reviewed the Project Notification Form P'NF ,
received January 17,2020,for the project referenced above. The project includes redevelopment the former
Docent Technologies facility at 1600 Osgood Street in North Andover.
Review f the Inventory of Historic and.Archaeological Assets of the Commonwealth indicates that the project
property includes the Chadwick Farris ancient Native American archaeological,site 1 - S-1 1 -ES-1 6 .
Chadwick Farm was first identified by, ,ti nal archaeologists in the late 1911 century. The site, dates ftom at least
the Early Archaic hai Period(approximately 9,000 years ago)through the Woodland period(approximately 5 years
ago). Undisturbed portions of the project impact area are archaeo logically lly s rlsitive, and likely l to contain artifacts,
archaeological features s and soil deposits associated d with ancient Native American occupation and land use at
Chadwick Farm. The archaeological sensitivity ofthe project impact, area is principally defined by its proximity t
the recorded archaeo logical ical sites and environmental setting. "Thy project environmental setting includes upland
locations ntaining areas of ell-drained soils located in proxinuity to the wetlands and water resources ofthe
Merrimack River and unnamed feeder streams,s,favorable for ancient and historical period land use and occupation.
n.
The MHC requests that an intensive si l tti real archaeological survey 5 C ndn ted for the
archaeologically sensitive p rti, ns ofthe project. The goal ofthe investigation is to locate and identify anyr
significant archaeological resources that could be affected by the project, well in advance of any, project
construction. The results of the survey y will be considered 'in consultation to avoid, mrinimize or mitigate adverse
effects to any significant archaeological resources identified in.the project impact area.
