Hi Paul,
I'm unable to attend the Zoning Board meeting tomorrow night, so I'm hoping you can pass along this note to ZBA
members before the meeting.
I'm a homeowner on High Street, and like many of my neighbors, I have seen the dramatic negative effects of massive
apartment developments by the Mills on High Street in recent years.
When the Avalon development was proposed, the Planning Board reviewed a traffic study that indicated those hundreds
of apartments would have no effect on traffic in the area, and accepted that. We can tell you first-hand that traffic has
risen significantly.
We now have to wait quite a while to pull our car out of our driveway or even walk across the street. Speeding has also
become a notable issue and has been reported to the police.
Hundreds and hundreds of rental units have been built at the mills within the last few years. When I learned that there's a
new proposal to build hundreds more there, I couldn't believe the town would even consider approving it.
In addition to the obvious traffic impact, there is the impact to our environment. There are wetlands in that area, and we
have seen the flooding effects since the Avalon developments were built. Of course, I could go on with other
considerations, such as the impact on our schools and on our water supply, but I'm sure others are already expressing
those concerns.
Please consider the residents in the area and do whatever you can to block the proposed development. High Street
residents have suffered enough. This is not the only part of town where apartments can be built.
I appreciate the work of the ZBA, and appreciate your consideration of the concerns of local residents.
All the best,
Robin Morgasen
