H.O. Cook, Director, Division of Forestry, under date of February 15, 1943.
A petition was received from the New England Telegraph and Telephone Company
covering the Joint ownership of five existing telephone poles' on State High-
way (By Pass) in North Andover, southerly f~om a point app. 151 feet south
of Hillside Road. Joint ownership with the Lawrence Gas and Electric Co.
On the motion of Mr. Thomson seconded by Mr. Finneran it was unanimously
voted to grant same. · ~.~: .-.
An invitation was received from the American Legion Auxiliar~for'the
Selectmen to attend tbe Americanism Program to be held Monday:Evening,
~ebruary 22, 1943 in Legion Hall. It was voted to accept the invitation.
Notice is received from the Massachusetts Committee on Public~ Safetyfof the
appointment of Major Carolyn F. Standley, Massachusetts Women'sDefense
Corps, as Commanding Officer of'Region i~of which this town is~a par~.
A communication was received from Walter H. Southwick, Trial:Justice,'
Nahant, Mass. requesting that the town contribute $2.00 towards his
expense to defray the cost of mailing letter~ and'circulars~concerning, .
the abolishing of trial Justi~eoffices throughout the State.~ · ,..~:~ '
The Board decided not to send. the $2.00. 'Mr. Thomson when asked.,his~.~~,
opinion as t$ whether the ~ffice of trial Justiceshould be ~b01ished-. .
said that he did not think~hey should be abolished but on the other
hand if those who held the offices wanted them, he.felt they should~,pay
~the expense incurred themselves. ~.~

A hearingw~s-held at 7:30 P.M. on the petition of Tomaso V .....

a tree removed from in front of his property at 13 Beverly Street.'. The tree
was posted'for.the required time and there were no objections received.against
its removal. On the motion ef Mr. Finneran, seconded by Mr.',Thomso~ it was
unanimously voted to grant permission for the removal'of theltree~'..Mr. Vernille

A State Aid return for the month of. F~bruar~was approved at' %his meeting, it
contained the name ef Ruth Carey. for ~10~00 and Sophia Kane for,$10.O0. -

The Board organized for the year and Mr. Foster was again ~9~ed~Chairman
by ttnanimsus vote on the motion cf P,~. Thomson, seconded by .Mr., Finneran.
Mr. Foster suggested that the present ~lerk of .the Board, Mr.[Arthur ·
,Thomson, be reappointed for the ensuing year. Mr. Thomson then~made-a
motienthat the present officer-holders be reappointed. This. mot£on was
carried unanimously.
Mr. Foster advised that the Board of Selectmen, the North AndoverGrange and
