HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-03-15 Emergency Food Committee for ;[orth ~ndsver. The names are to be sent to the Essex County A~ricultural School, Mr. Harold A. Mostrom, Director. Mr. Thomson suggested that it might be well to write those person~ appoint- ed on the committee, advisin~ of their appointment. This was decided upon. The following were appointed: Rudolf Messerli, Chairman, Mrs. Abbot Stevens and John J. Wileox. The Bond of the Treasurer, James Maker in the amount of SZ0-O00. a~d Bondo£ the Tax Collector, ~rving E. ~linton in the amount o~ $39~80~.wasthe approved by the Selectmen this date. S~rve~o.rsof Wo~d.,-Ba~k and Lumber, Mr. Foster advised on this appointment that Mr. Clarence Farnham had moved out of Town. He was ene,,of the present surveyors. ( Arthur Farnham, Angus Cross, Charles Paul, Zra Carty and Ernest Smith) Mr. Thomson made a motion that the present encnmbents be reappointed ~ith the exception of Mr. Clarence Farnham and that he be replaced by Mr. E~nest Smith. Mr. Finneran seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried~ Fence Viewers, Mr. Thomson moved for the reappointment of the present in~ cumbents Mr. Wright Stork and Mr. Joseph Gill. Mr. Finneran seconded the motio= which was unanimously*carried. ~, Joseph Rivet, G~ogan's Field and Mr. John Cushing Caretaker of the William Drummond Playground. Mr~ Finneran at firs~ made the mo~ion to appoint Mr. Rivet as Csretaker for Grogan's Field and later Mr. Thomson made the motion for the ~wo appointments which was seconded by Mr. Finneran and Unanimously voted. Soldiers' Relief A ent, Mr. Joseph Flanagan on the motion of Mr. Thomson, seconded.by Mr. Joseph M. Finneran and unanimously carried. Sealer of We[ ts and Measures Arthur Jenkins, on monion of Mr. Finneran, seconded by Mr. Themson and unanimously carried. ~, John D~lan on the motion of Mr. Thomson, seconded by Mr. Finneran and unanimously carried. On the motion of Mr. Thomson the matter of appointing the Constable~ was tabled for the time being. This was a unanimous vote. Mr. Thomson spo~e of the acute problem of obtaining medical attention during the night here in town. He said that he had ~h~d people speak to him about the matterand suggested that the Board make an effort throush the M~dical Association ;o try and have a doctor available for the people of this town fornight calls. Of the three doctors now left in Town Mr. Thomson said, one c~nnot go,out on night calls and the other two are not interested in night calls. This makes an ac~t~e situation which is steadily becoming worse, Mr. Thomson said. On the mo%ion of Mr. 2homson seconded by Mr. Finneran it was voted to contact the President of the Medical Association to see if something could be done. The matter was left in Mr. Thomson's hands ~o take the matter up with Dr. Curtin. Mr. William Callahan, Janitor at the High School spoke to the Selectmen prior .to this meeting in reference te the triangle in front of the High School which he has taken care-of for some time. He suggested that this plot be taken care of by the Committee appointed to take care of parks and triangles in town. The lot is in need of reseeding and care. It was decided that Mr. Foster, Chairman. contact the School Committee.and see what their ~eaction is ~o this sugoestio~. The lot in question is at present part of the land on which the High School'stands and has a large statue on it. Meeting adjourned. March 15, 1943 - The regular meeting of the ~oard was held this date with all members present. The weekly bills were approved for payment. A letter of acknowledgment was received from Mr. Harold Mostrom, Esse~Agri- cultural School, Hathoxu~e, Mass. for the names of the Committee appointed locally and sent to him.
