Upon request ~f the Governemn~ of the United States %he licensing authority in cities and towns, subject to the approvalof the State Fire Marshall and ~o the approval of the C.mmissioner of the State Department of Public Safety, may issue licenses under the provisions of General Laws (Ter. Ed. ) chapter 148, section 23~to any agency of the Government of the United States or to any industry or est-~ ablishment certified by an ~gency of the Government of the UnitedStates as engaged in operations vital to the prose- cution of the war, without a public hearing and without t~e giving of any public or other notice. Meeting adJo~zrned March 29, 1943 - The regular weekly meeting of tbs Board was held this date -,ith a~l members present. The weekly bills were approved for payment. E Juror was drawn to serve at Superior Civil Court, Newburyport April 20, 1943. Mr. Charles B. Kelley, an Operative, 168 Water Street, was drawn byMr. Foster to serve. Mrs~ Vera Meade made s request for the use of Stevens Hall for May 7, 1943 for ~the Legion Jr's Minstel Show. Mr. Finneran moved the =equest be granted provided the School Depar~men~ does not plan to use it ~n that night. ~,~r. Thomson seconded the motion which was unanimbusly carried. A State Aid report ~6r ~e month of March was signed by the Selectmen this date. It contained the names of Sophia Kane and Ruth Carey for ten dollars each. The Selectmen appointed the following men Special Constables: Marcus Magoon~ Robert th Campbell and Archie Gourlay, Jr. Mr. Rudolph Nesserli, Chairman of the Local Food Committee asked the Board to appoint Mrs. Douglas E. Sparks and Mr. Harlow E. Meade to his Committee and so advise Mr. Monstrom of Essex Agri- cultural School. The Board voted ~nanimous!y ~o appoint Mr. Meade and Mrs. Sparks as requested on the motion of Mr. Minneran seconded by Mr. Thomson. Upon the Joint request of the N.E. Tel. & Tel.
