HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-04-26Mr. Duffy came in to tell the Board about his visit to Boston about the fire equipment and gas masks for the Town that he went in ~o find out about. He talked with Mr. Foster of the Federal Procurement Office who will write to the Selectmen to request that 'they appoint a Federal PropartyOfficer. He also talked with Mr. Percy Shanock who is head of the Insurance Company at 18 Tremont Street. Mr. Duffyfeels definitely sure of ~etting the pumps and he thinks the town will get 'the gas masks too. Mr. Flanagan cane in about the hearing scheduled for the validation of the numerous poles in town and said there were no new poles or cables to be installed it was Just a matter of.straightening out the telephone records. Notice' is received under date of 4/15/43 that the h,,~l~ing owned by the Andover Savings Bank and rented to the American Legion has been sold to Mr. Henry N. Peabody, 15 Broadway, Lawrence. Meeting adjourned. April 19.- . No Meeting held this date, holiday. o April 26, 1943- The regular weekly meeting of the Board was held this date with all members present. The weekly bills were approved for payment · An acknowledgment was received from 'the Boston and Maine · Railroad in answer ~o our letter of April 15th in regard to the condition of the road at the Sutton Street Crossing. Our letter, we are informed has beez referred to Chief En- gineer, Mr. T.G. Sughrue, from whom we will hear soon. A hearing was held on the petition of the New Eng. Tel. & Tel. Co. to validate various locations in ~own as shown on '"~plans 990,992,993, and 986. Mr. Flanagan from the Telephone Company was present at the hearing. There were no objections soon the motion of Mr. Thomson, seconded by Mr. Finneran it was unaimously voted that the petition be granted. There are about 1000 different sized paper bags left from the W.P;A. Commodities and Mr. WilliamMcAloon asked if he could .. purchase these for his package store. The Board decided to sell them to him. Revolver applications for Milton Howard and Samuel ~evin were approved by the BQard 'Mr. Thomson reported that he had received calls complaining about two open cellars which were very dangerous. They are quite deep and water collects there. Children have been play- ..~in them and he suggested that Chief McKee be notified to make a full repor~ on them as to their condition and what he st:ggests to be done ~o remedy the situation. One cellar i~ back of TaWrn Acres is owned by Mr. Louis McAloon and the other is on LincoIn Street, the owner unknown. A communication is'received from'the Es4ex County. Retirement Board under date of April 16, 1943 requesting a list of the names of the heads of the various departments in towm, ~ogether with the approm- imate number of Employees in each' department. State and Military Aid reports were sent in to the Commissioner as follows: 'For the month of April State Aid, Mrs. Sophia Kane, $10,00 and · M~S. Ruth Carey, $10.00. ' MilitAry Aid - James Smith for the months of March, $40.00 and April, $40.00. Mr. Maker ~:ame in fo.'the meeting to talk about the retirement fund. He talked with Mr. Harold Thurston, County Treasurer, who will send applications at a later date. Be recommends making deductions from everybody's pay until everything is regulated. Mr. Foster read the letter received from Mr. Thurston which was men- tioned above and asked to have the names sent in aa requested.
