Mr. Maker also advised that he received s letter from the
asking him to approve any extra gasoline for tovm trucks, etc. He
asked Mr. Thomson to interpret the letter whichhe'did not under-

A communication under date of April 16th was received, from the
the Department of Public Safety with reference to t~e.'"~teen age
girl problem" which was directed to the attention of_~the' depart-
ment by Governor Saltonstall. '
On the mote'on of Mr; Thomson, this letter was ~eferred to the
Police Department.
City Clerk of Lawrence, Cordon Caffney, came before' the meeting
concerning the removal of the trees at the Lawrence Airport. He
asked that the discussion be confidetial and off the~ record but
Chairman Foster felt that notes should be taken.
Mr. Gaff ney said the Civil Aeronautics Administration would take
· over the incompleted work'of.the W.P.A. provided thny~'~received
an assurance that 'the trees would be removed at the completion of
#2 Runway. This runway will be set hack 500 'feet from the high-
way to take care of Iow flying. Mr. Herbert Law , head ~of the
Civil Aeronautics Administration expected the W;P.A. to finishS?this-
work but they could not do' it. The O.A. Administration has enough
money to complete it. This-field is not to,be used for~Civil,flying
until after the was'. ~,~ · . · ~ ·
Mr. Thomson suggested Ghat ~t'might be' well for 'the ,~.ar Department
to write ~n to the Board and'm~ke some'suggestions.," ' ·
The Runway is to ~be completed ~By_ tHe~ end of the '.'sUmme~. · ~Work
will be discontinuedlfor a brief period April 30th. , '
Mr. Gaffnny said further that .the Gas and Electric Company have
all their plans made to change 'the lines over as soon as it is
~ertain the trees will be removed. - '
Mr. Finneran sa~d he though a hearing should be held before' giving
'any assurance by letter. Mr. Go,f ney said this had been.pending, for
over two years and the' result will probably be' the same,
Mr. Gaff ney Will make application fo~ a hearing to .be~ held May 10
or May l?th. ~ .......

May 3~ 1943 - The regular-weekly meeting of. the B$a~was held
this date with ,1~ members present. The weekly bills were approved

Mr. Alexander White came Before the Board asked if th'~y;could do any-
thing for him while he was waiting to receive his compensation; He is
under Dr. Holt's care at the present time. 'Mr. Foster talked with Mr.
Carry' who in t~rn spoke to his. secretary about it. She,advised ,that
the reports' would be hack here Friday May 7, 1943. Mr.. Fostar, suggested
that Mr. White contact Mr. Carry in the meantime for ~ 'h~p needed.
A letter of appreciation was received from Chief Buch4n"of the ~ndover
Fire Department for the assistanc& rendered them ~y the local.-fire
department ~pril 2~th. ~t was'decided to notify Chief. ~-~greaves of the
receipt of the letter.
Mr. ~eo Murphy came in to the meeting and as ed if the. Fish',~ Game
Warden was appointed last year. Mr. Finnerun"advised 'that it had

A communication was received from the 'Bostonand Main~Ra~lroad~' ' -' "in fur-
ther reference to the condition of Sutton,Stree~Cros~ing. ·
They 'advised that work has sta~tad as of April 28 on';t~e repair of
street. ' ' ' . ,.
A form letter was received from the Commission on 2~e~uistration
advising of an act passed under Chapter 214~Authoriz'i~g the State,
County, Municipal and Town Officers, during the, present emergency, to
exchange, loan or sell publicly owned personal property for ~the ,use
b y the U.S. governement in the, prosecution cf the waA~.~: T~pewriters
were mentioned as an urgently needed article.
