'~' Mr. Foster stated that be'had been in contact with the Lawrence Gas and Electric Company in reference to the very dark condition on Salem Street called~to his attention b~ several of the people,,livimg there. He was advised by Mr. Patterson ~o make application for these lights now even though they may not be able to do anything ~at ~this ,time about them. A communication was received from Mr. Theodore' N. Waddell, Director of Accounts, Dept. of Corporations and' 'Taxatiom, advising in answer to our letter' of July 14 that a transfer' may. be .made .from the Reserve ~m~ to take care of the expense in?olved'~for the~ County Retirement System. This is the ~ype of expense., he said, that Reserve Funds are set up for'; Since the amount'needed was' not 'known'.at the time of our Town Meeting it is an unforeseen expense, and the finance Committee should have no hesitancy in grant~ng a transfer from the Reserve ~und if a request is made.' - A 'letter was received under date' of July 19, from' the' Lawrence Gas and- Electric' Company in acknowledgman~ of"our~ letter of ~.uly 14th in which* request~ was made'.for~ two or' three ~lights.' on. Zt is doubtful if W.P.B. approval can he obtained for this extension ',,'~tes~'~you can qualify your application on the basis that it is re- quested from a standpoint of public safety, the letter stated. Permission was unanimously given the Lawrence Cas and Electric Company .:to repair & gas main at 194 Railroad Avenue in accordance with'.their petition of July 30, 1943. A.'communication was received from:Lawrence J.' Bresnahan, Director of Office of Price Administration, Boston, Mass. thanking the Board for their letter 'of. July 15, submitting the name of, Mr. John Finn, to' serve as a member of the local' War Price and Rationing Board. -Mr. Brssmahan-approved the appointment of Mr. Finn. Aletter was received fromMrs. Mary E. Murphy, 210~0sgood Street, asking that the Board establishthe bouadaryof her property line ~t:the above address. As this matter doesnot come within the Juris- ~diction of the Board of Selectmen, it was voted.~to so advise her. A. not[ce was received from.~he. Massachusetts Selectmen'e'Association advising of the 1944'meeting of the Association to he-.held at Swamp- :..s~ott. The notice-was addressed to. Mr. Foster as-President of · '~sscciatinn and~ asking that this Board he hosts at this ~meeting.
