A meeting of the License Commission was held atl:3OP.M.
with all members present. It was unanimously vote~ to grant a Liquor License
to Cochichewick Club, subject to the building being remodeled to meet with
approval of the A.B.C. Commission, 'an~ the Licensing Commission..

At a special meeting. of the Board of Selectm~n~ i~ was voted
to hold a Special Town Meeting on September 20, 1943. Motion was-made ~hy
Mr. Thomson and seconded by Mr. Finneran and vote was unanimous.
The following articles were on the warrant for'this special
town meeting: .
Article 1. To see~ifthe Town.will vote to authorize the Fire. Engineers
to appoimt one of their members, a permanent driver for the duration of the
war.
Articl~ 2. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town.~Tr~as~rer to
pay James Hargreaves the sum of One Hundred and Fifty-twcdollars ($152.00)
for services rendered as a spare.driver, up to the date of this meeting, to
be taken from the appropriation of the Fire Department.
Article 3. To see if the Town will appropriate from available funds, the
sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to be used to pay thesalary~of the
permanent driver of the Fire Department for the balance or. this year.
Ar~icle'4~ To ~see if the Town will appropriatefrom available~funds, .the
sum. of. One Hundred Dollars $100.00) to supplement the. appropriation-of the
~reaSUre~'s Department for the remainder of this year.
Article 5~ To see if the Town will vote ~to-appropriate from available
funds, the' sum of Twenty-fourHumdred Dollars ($2400.~0) to supplement
the 01d~Age'Assistance appropriation. . - .

The ~e~ular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen
was held this date. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. '×
Mr. Percy M. Tinker has applied for a War Emergency
Certificate, under Executive Order No.ll, issued by the Governor' of
Massachusetts, acting under provisions of the Acts cf 1942-Chap~l~'~
Section 2 and 3 to operate buses for carriage of passengers betw~e~
Newbnryand Lowell, passing over the following streets: Essex~ Great
Pond Road and Peters Streets. The matter was taken under advisement.
Alfio Luzzio requested the removal of a large t~e'
from Commonwealth Ave. Mr. Thomson made a motion to refer the matter to
Tree Warden John J. Connors. Mr. Finnersn~conded the motion and vote
was unanimous. Hearing is to be held 9/27/43 at 7.30 P.M.'~ in ~his office.
The Board granted a request pf the firemen 'f~r permission
to use a small rAilrosd stove, which was originally~ purchas'ed for~u~ of
W. P. A.
A letter from the Safety Cycle Club of America,~
addressed to the Chief of Police was read and 'is to be referred
Chief McKee,regarding unpaid bill for 400 bicycle license
shipped to North Andover on June 1, 1943.
An invitation from the American Legion Post, #219~
and it's Auxiliary was unanimously accepted and the Board~will attend
the Joint installation on September 2?, if possible. Letter of~
acceptance will be sent to theLegioh.
A bill received for damage to a bicycle was received.
