HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-11-01Regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen held, at T. 00 P.M. with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved, Two transfers from the Reserve Fund, approved by the Advisory Board were made:- l- The sum of twenty-four do!lore and eighty-six cents ($24.86) trans- ferred from the Reserve Fund ~o the B~thing Beach Appropriation'. 2 The sum of seventeen dollars and eighty cents ($17.80) transferred from the Reserve Fund to the Zoning By-Laws Appropriation. Mk. Thomson made a motion that the following vote be taken: That the Traffic Rulew and Orders of the Town of North Andover adopted by the Board of Selectmen under date of May 9, 1938 be and are here- by amended by adding at the end of Article VII, Section 10, the following: "East and westbound drivers on Elm Street at Water Street." Motion seconded by Mr. Finneran and vote was unanimous. Fred Townsend came ~efore tbs board %o say that he understood that a complaint had been made to the board that he could not build a wall ~n front of his property. Nc complaint had been received to date and Mr. Cartywas contacted and he also stated he knew of no complaint. Mr. Townsend was advised to continue with the wall. A bulletin was received from the War Production Board in regard to "Conserving Critical Resources." No action was taken. A notice was received from the Department of Public Utilities, advis- ing that the War Emergency Relief Certificate issued to Percy Monroe Tinker reads as follows:- Ordered that no bus operated under special license and war emergency certificate D.P.U. 6816-125, Cert.#170, shall be operated more than f~y, (50) miles between terminal points nor shell make more than two round trips per day. Signed-WM.H. Kirley. A letter was received from. Boston and Maine, dated 10/19/1943 stating that prompt action will be taken to correctconditions on Sutton Stree~ and Marblehead Street at Railroad Crossing. A second letter from~Boston and M~ine dated 10/22/1943. informing tbs Board that repair work is now underway and resurfac~ng will be complete~ soon. An application for Military Aid~was approved for Robert G. Stewart, ~who enlisted 11/15/1942 at Lawrence, Mass. Company 536 H.M.Reg. and who was discharged 10/1/1943 (Medical) Military Aid of $10.00 was approved by the Board for Robert G. Stewart for one week. Approval was received from Civil Service 'for a two dollar ($2.00] increase for Lillian Dearden for Selectmen's work. Letter states that Civil Service has no Jurisdiction over Selectmen's Office. Meeting Adjourned. ~ctober 28,1~A$ A Juror was drawn this day by Mr. Finneran to serv~ in ~awrence Superior Cour~(Civil) on November 1, 1943. Alexander R. Stewart of llZBeverly Street was the Juror. Mr. Thomson was not present at this drawing. Charles Wilcox of Salem Street, notified Mr. Foster that 45 layin~ Bantam Hens were killed by unknown dogs on the 18th day of October. Mr. Wilcox has no dog of his own. Np~ember 1. 1~ The regular weekly meeting was held st 7.00 P.M. with all members present. We%kly bills and payrolls were approved. Mr. William Henrich, who takes care of the flag pole at the Memorial Park came before the Board ~o ask permission ~o buy a new rope. He explained that he wo~ld pre,er.an endless rope and it was left to his Judgment. A petition was received from the La~ence Gas & Electr~.c Company for permission to locate, poles, wires end fixtures as are necessary st 7.30 P.M. Abuttors were notified on this date.
