The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members present
except Chairman Graham who is on vacation. Present were Ac~ing Chairman, Charles A.
Salisbury, Christine M. Smith, Kenneth C. Crouch and Francis X. Dugan. The minutes
and warrant were approved as submitted.
4th of JULY CELEBRATION:
Invitation received from Frank Dushame, General Chairman of the annual 4th of July
celebration. The Board voted to ride in Selectman Christine Smlth~s convertible. Mr,
Dushame will be so notified.
MOTORCYCLE COMPLAINT-:
Letter received fror~ a*'group of concerned mothers living in the area of Pleasant, Elm,
Church and Davis Streets. They complained of several persons riding at high speed on
Pleasant Street especially on weekends and they feared for the safety of their children
playing on the sidewalks. They also said the noise was continuous. Selectman Crouch
stated that the~ letter'should not be acknowledged because it was unsigned. The writers
stated that they feared repercussions from the cyclists if they revealed who they were.
It was voted to request the police department to conduct a surveillance for two days this
coming weekend in the above-named area which could solve the complaint.
HOLT ROAD. REPAIRS:
The Selectmen discussed the status of Holt Rd., Clark Street and Rt. 125 and the funding
fo~¥epairs,to the roads. Bud Cyr stated that he would do the necessary work on Holt
Road through a force account providing the state lived up to their promise to fund the
'work;? It::~vas understood the state would provide $30~,, 000 for the construction of Holt Rd.
T,h~ ,repair of Cl~irk Rd. and upgrading 'is the responsibility of the contractor, Cyr said.
-Selectman Salisbury stated that the Secretary of State had promised to fund the access road.
";Johr{ Bohenko stated that a letter had been sent on the matter and had not receivea any
,'reply~.as yet. Selectmen stated that a strong letter should be sent if there is no response

and t. he .S.ecretary of ,Transportation should be contacted. After further discussion it
nammously voted to authorize the Chairman to send a letter to Joan Gardlner to insure the

to review projects and future projects of the Community Development Office to carry on the
work.of the C.D. Directoi-, Rick Domas, who is resigning on June 6th. ,'lhe company
r~;,ieW past projects, present activity and future pr.,o, jects... Rhodes said it would take at
least two,~weeks to eva uate all projects but thel~resence~ of his company would insur& the
cOntinuity-of the Town programs.to EOCD. It was unanimously voted to contract the COA,
;'Inc. to work for the Town' for one month and to forward the contract to Town Counsel for
;-~Pproval as to form.
SELECTMEN'OFFICE - AIR CONDITIONER:
The Selectmen approved the purchase of an air conditioner.for ,the Selectme'n's Secretarial
office to replace the 20 yr. old air conditioner that finally gave up the ghost.
VANERSE/HANGEN CONTRACT AMENDMENT.:

MASS. SMALL CITIES GRANT APPLICATION.
The Board unanimously approved the application Rick Domas proposed to submit on May 31st.
AMERICAN LUNG ASSOC ATION BICYCLE TOUR:
:'The Board voted unanimously to grant permission to the American Lung Association to
conduct a bicycle tour;on Sunday, June 17th; startin~ at 9:00 a.m. They will be instructed
to contact the police department for instructions andi:,safety precautions on their proposed
route. The tour is both a fitness and fund raising event.
APPRECIATION LETTERS:
The Board voted to send a letter to Santo Messina for allowing the town employees to park
in the Messina parking lot this winter while the Town Bldg. parking lot was being renovated
Notes of appreciation will also be sent to Amanda Crouch and Ry.a.n Patric. k D. ugan for_
makin, g and holding a sign for the Board of Selectmen while rnarcnlng in the ~emorial [Jay
paraae.
