Watershed Committee: Scud
It was the recommendation of the Watershed Committee to have the Selectmen sign the letter
of intent with Merrimack Valley Planning Commission to have them coordinate a study of the
Lake.

The Board held their regular meeting on this date with all members present: Chairman Chris-
tine M. Smith, John W. Graham, Charles A. Salisbury, Kenneth C. Crouch, Ramsey A. Bahrawy;
Executive Secretary Keith A. Bergman. The warrant and minutes of 5/6 and 5/9 were approved
as submitted.
.Conservation Commission Interviews
The Board interviewed Peter Shaheen, Olaf Westphalen, John Simons and Robert Mansour for
the vacancy on the Con. Com. to expire on June 30, 1985. Also applying for the position,
but unable to attend was Jack Linden. Upon a ballot vote by the Board, 3-2 (Crouch & Bahrawy
opposed), Jack Linden was appointed to said position.
Public Hearinss
The Board approved.the petition of New England Tel. on Mill Rd.; and New England Telephone
and Mass. Electric Co. on Route 125 ByPass,
Employee Assistance Prosram for Fire Dept.
Chief Wm. Dolan and Lieutenant Ray MacLean of the Fire Dept. discussed with the Board a
proposed program to reduce lost time and effectiveness from preventable health and related
problems. While the Board had some queries relative to injuries in this program, it was
VOTED 3-2(Crouch and Graham opposed) to endorse the physical fitness program for Fire Dept.
personnel and that it be expanded to include the Police Dept. at some future point in time;
and to review with our insurance carrier if there would be any savings on the liability
policy premium due to this program.
Urban Systems Project
Selectman Graham expressed concern that all funds be expended on:time. The Board voted
unanimously to authorize the Exec. Secretary to determine whether the expenditures will
belcompleted on time.
.Community Development Status Report
Boat Ramp: COG proposed to continue to monitor this project through June at a cost of $700;
the Board so voted unanimously to employ COG through June.
Walter Reed/Downtown Project: Discussion ensued on the method of payment to Walter Reed for
the Downtown Improvements. Board voted to pay $23,206.85 in two payments to Walter Reed
C°rp.,-:$11,183.00 (t~t~lof liquida~d d~m~ges;'fire'statlon apro~'~nd'~te~ 'bill); and
$~2,023.8~ (a~oun~ to be released to ~l~er'R~ed in. any event). The reason for this approach
was to motivate Walter Reed to complete the remainder of the work at the fire station on time.
Allen K. Deary: The Board reviewed a request to take a "third position" relative to a second
mortgage for Mr. Deary. Mr. Deary received a grant from Community Development in the amount
of $7,853. The Board voted to request a certified appraisal of Mr. Deary prior to passing
Judgement on his request.
Public Works Union Contract Addendum
The Board discussed the compensation rate for heavy motor equipment operators within the
Highway and Public Works Departments, specificatly,~ a dis'crepency created :by the Evads~Report
~of the late. seventies% ~,The Board~woted ~unhnimously .to execute.'~!contra~t, addendum which
will serve to place certain employees in theHighwayDept, presently classified as W-3, be
reclassified to W-4.
Zonin~ Bd. & Personnl Bd. Member Resi~nations
The Boardreceived with regret the resignation of Maurice Fould as Associate Member of the
Zoning Bd. of Appeals and Ruth Iannazzo of the Personnel Bd., and voted to send letter of
thanks with regret.
1985-1986 Annual Appointments
The Board voted ~o send letters to all incumbents for expression of interest and advertise
for open posl~ions. The Board also voted to advertise for Town Counsel.
Custodian - Town Buildinss
The Board vo~ed to authorize Exec. Secretary Keith Bergman to interview and hire a custodian;
and to review the need for additional staff and/or cleaning service.
Civil Service - Police Lieutenant Position
The Board voted to request a list from Civil Service to fill the position offpolice
lieutenant.
