Request for One Da C.V. License
The Board approved the request of the N.A. Historical Society for a one day common victualer
license for 19th Century Family Day for the sale of coffee and pastries, etc.
Reqeust for One~
The Board unanimously approved the request of Boston University's Osgood Hill Conference
Center for a one day liquor license for the Bardsley Wedding; for the N.A. Democratic
Society with one police officer.
McAloons Incident
Chairman Bahrawy reported on receipt of a police report concerning an incident at McAloons
Package Store. Voted to schedule a hearing on September 28, 1987.
Executive Session
The Board voted unanimously to go into executive session for the purposes of discussing

The Board held a special meeting on this date for the purpose of conducting interviews with
applicants for several vacancies.
HOUSING AUTHORITY: The Board interviewed Roberta Hunter, Nicholas DiBitetto, and Marilyn
Carney, along with the Housing Authority. As provided by the Charter, votes were cast by
both~the Selectmen and the Housing Authority, with 7 votss..:cast for Mr. DiBitetto and 2
votes cast for Ms. Carney.
COUNCIL ON AGING: The Board interview~d Jacob Freedman, and had previously interviewed
Nancy Tariot.for one vacancy. Subsequently, 3 votes were cast for Mr. Freedman and 2 votes
cast for Ms. Tariot.
CONSERVATION COMMISSION: The Baord interviewed Paul Tariot for the one vacancy, and voted
to interview Karen Jacobs Gold at a later date, and had previously interviewed Joseph Averks
No votes were taken.
HISTORICAL COMMISSION: The Board interviewed Patricia Long, Susan Bournival and incumbent
Mary Hart~for the one vacancy..: S~bs~quently~ the Board .voted to appt. Mary,.Hart-'unan,.
CABLE TV COMMITTEE: The Baord interviewed James Simon for the vacancy on the Cable TV
Committee. Subsequently, the Board voted to appoint James Simon unanimously.
LOCAL ARTS C0UNCIL: The Board interviewed Alice Josephs for the one vacancy on the Local
Arts Council. Voting was held over pending applicant Karen Jacobs Gold's interview.on the
28th.

The Board held a regular meeting on this' date with ~41 members present: '. Acting
Chalrman Christine Smith,:Charles~OrSa~ishury,~ Kenneth C.Crouch,.a~d Ramsey A. Bahrawy;
Town Manager Paul D. Sharon.
Executive Session
The Board voted unanimously to go into execuitve session for the purpose of discussing
purchase'of property re: Mazuranko. Once adjourned into open session, Acting Chm. Smith
made a public statement: "The Board of Selectmen is surprised that attorneys for the
Mazurenko family are now allegingtechnlcalities in the notice of .the Town's interest
in purchase of land for protection of the Lake Cochichewick watershed. We have
authorized our attorney to protect the Town's interest up to and including litigation, if
necessary."
Public Hearin~Classification
A public hearing was conducted on this date to hear comments on whether to adopt dif~
stent classifications for property, prior to setting the tax rate. '~'The Board heard from
several residents as well as from representatives of in-town businessses and the G.L?C.C.
Finance Director Jim Dewhirst reported that changing classification does not raise
revenue, while resident Bob E~ 'oliui felt that classification could have a positive effect
on the homeowners' attitudes..by shifting.~He~bh=~en~ed Phelau, Assessor reported that the
tax rate would probably be $13.02 at one classification. Motion by Crouch, seconded by
Salisbury, voted 4-0 to set the tax,rate for all properties with a factor of 1 as a fair
share.
Discussion: Policy for Use of Publi~?ro~erties & BloCk Parties
The Board discussed whether requests such'as the use of public properties.should be handled
as a policy issue or an administrative. The Board instructed the' Town Manager to %se his ..
discretion in bringing certain requests to their attention.?
