The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members preseh~;
Selectmen Joseph A. Guthrie, John F. Coady with Chairman Thomas J. McEvoy presiding. The
warrant, and minutes were approved as submitted.
R~CEIVED:
Notice from Attorney Ford that the arbitration hearing on the Firefighterts contract in-
volving the lieutenant's differential will be held June 21st, at 10 A.M.
Letter from Administrator of Methuen calling for a meeting of the International Relations
.Committee on June 23, at 10:00 a.m. Brian Sullivan will attend.
Notice from CE~A of new allocation of funds and tbs hiring schedule for 22 weeks of work.
Notice from Town Accountant re handling payrolls and bSlls for the end of the fiscal year.
Letter of thanks from Troop 81 Associates and Alice Reck for the Overpass Dedication.to her

Notice from CETA requesting applicants for membership on the Advisory Manpower Planning Bd.

Request received from Mrs. ~ichard Gorevitz of Salem Street for a school bus "Stop.. sign
at Salem Street and Bansan Drive. Request referred to Chief Lawlor.
REQUEST:
Letter received from Rese DiPaolo, 5 Beacon. Hill Blvd., requesting the Town to clean up area
in front of her property. Board referred the letter to the Pu~.ic Works Dept.
SPEED COMPLAINT:
I~tter from Mre & Mrs. Dem~is Currier, ~asse Avenue, protesting excessive speeds on Mass.
Letter referred to Chief lawlor.
BLOCK ~OTHER AREA SIGNS:
Letter from Mrs. Jo Anne Herold, 25 Poor Street, requested permission to place signs on
utility poles for the protection of children from molesters. Letter referred to John Pare,
Mass. ~ectric CO.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Letter from Mrs. ~lexander Uszynsl~, Salem Street, requeste~ action on the folio%ring:
1. Dog situation in Town. 2. Litter problem in Town. 3. Investigation of traffic on
Salem St. 4. Clean up of Sweeney's proper~y on Sutton S.treet. .Board requested letter
and copy of Mrs. Uszynski~s letter be sent to the Dog Offmcer, ~,,lding Inspector and Chief
Lawlor for their comments and recommendations.
SCHOOL COMmiTTEE:
Letter received from Fred Rex, Staff Asst. to Supt. of Schools, requesting advice whether
the' School Committee could contact Town Counsel for advice on matters or should it go thru
the Selectmen. The Board instructed a letter be sent stating that the School Committee, as
a T own Board, could seek advice directly from Town Counsel on any matter.
DATA P~OC~SI~G:
The Selectmen voted to approve the above-nsmed committeets request to c~31 for bids for
computer services.
APPO~E~T S:
Additional appointments' were made: Lake Study Committee (23 members) and the Graves Reg.
Officer, Edward A. Bardsley. Personnel Board, P~ger Lawson. Held for further' study were
the Conservation, Capital Budget, Historical ami Sign By-Law Committee.
GAS EXCAVATIONS:
The following gas excavations were approved: 232 Sutton St., to repair a gas min..at 190
Hfll Street to repair a gas control line and on Andover Stree$ at Andrew Circle to innt~l
a gas servicee
SO?.T~ WASTE:
The Board wi].l attend the dedication of the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District bu~]ding at
5, June 24. District will event-~y clean up the Merrimack Biver enough that citizens will
b. boat and swim in the river, safe from pollution.
