Selectmen Joseph A. Guthrie, John F. Ooady with Chairman Thomas J. 'McCoy presiding. The
minates and warrant were approved as submitted.
POLE LOCATIONS:
Approved: Installation of 6 poles on South Bradford Street.
Hearings set: Application to install 12 poles on Winter St. To install 15 poles on Lacy St.
(remover 4 poles) Hearing: 8/29/?7 - 7:35 p.m. and 7:30 P.M.
GAS E~CAVATION:
Approved: Toeexcavate on Great Pond P~. to iust-ll gas line.
William J. Ciampa, 58 Glenwood St., was drawn for Jury duty September 12 Sitting, at Lawrence.

Letter from John Pare, Nass. Electric. Co., was sent to petitionerrequesting the above-named
signs. He stated that signs would he hazardous to their maintenance men and would not install
them. Selectmen asked Brian S. to contact Mr. Pars. Same signs are inst~l~ed in Haverhill on
many poles.

The Selectmen voted to have Adm. Asst. draw up an appropriate Article to accept :f,,na..%~ a
Special Town Meeting.
LAW SUIT-HASS. LEAGUE OF CITIES & TO~NS:
Copy of letter from the School C~,~ittee to above-named denied .request to donate funds to
finance a suit undertaken by the Mass. League of Cities and Towns. Such a suit, they stated,
challenges the constitutionality of the present system of financing education in Massachusetts.

Letter received re Special Work Program. Referrsd to Brian S. for perusal.
Resignation received from James Scann~ll, Naintenauce Worker, who has accepted a psemanent
position as a Custodian for the State in Boston. Selectmen asked that Ceta he contacted for a
- replacement.'

Appeals. . ·
Louis Xmiec was appointed a member of the Town Bu/lding Code of Appeals.

Letter from C~ief Ia~lor stated that he had investigated possible a~ternate .routes for
truck traffic using Marblehead. Street a~ stated there was no other. State highways or
streets outside town limits c-n-~t Be used as alternate routes. The omly apparent route was
Greene Street which was out of the question because is was a narrow, winging ~-4 heav~
