THE CRYSTAL M~NOR: Selectman Ceady motioned that the license be granted to Nelinda DeCola, sub-
Ject to conditions imposed by the Board of Health and B~ildi.ng Inspoector and that a fence be
erected between the establishment and Village Green within stax (6) months. Zf not finished in
six months, applicant must reapply for the license. Motion seconded by Selectm~n Guthrie.
APPROVED: 1-day liquor license on Satarday, May 13, 1978 at Brooks School for 50th Anniversay
Celebration.

The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this d~te ~rith all me~bers present;
Selectmen Guthrie, McEvoy, Salisbury, Joyce with Chairman Ceady presid~mg. The warrant and
minutes were approved as submitted.
The following names were drawn for Jury duty for the June 5th Sitting, at S~lam: ~ary ~D.
Burns, Carolyn Kilton, Virginia Reposa, Joaune Bro~m and James P. McMurray. The following
person ~ms drawn for the June 5th Sitting, at Lawrence: Marie Beaudoin.
POLICE CAR BIDS:
There were no bids received for the purchase of four police cars.
REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE:
Letter from Republican Town Committee submitted three names to be considered to f~ vacancy
on the Board of Registrars. The Board voted to appoint the first name on the list, Nary
Windle, 116 High Street, a Republicau.
99 PAPerING PROBI~:
Letter from Chief Lawlor recommended that No parking, 7:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M. om both sides
of Mass. Avenue, from Osgood Street, Northerly, to Bacon Avenue. Pending until Sept. 1, 1978.
S~OPSSIGN~:
Letter from Chief Lawlor recommended a Stop Sign be inst~ed on Andover Street, at its
intersection with Osgood Street. He also recommended a Stop Sign be installed on W~l~ams
Street, at its intersection with Marblehead Street. Three copies of amendments to the Town's
Traffic Rules and Regulations w~ have t~ be sent to the State DPW for approval,
GAS EXCAVATIONS:
The Selectmen approved petitions to excavate on Sum~er and Marblehead Streets to install
gas services.
SUNMER SCHEDULE:
Approved the foLlow,lng dates for summer schedul of Selectmen's Meetings: June 5 - 19,
July 6 17 - 31...August 14 - 28....September ll.
THIRD FIRE STATION:
Fisher end Acting Chief Fitzgerald appeared before the Beard to ~iscuss the letter they
had sent citing a need for .a third fire station to service the extensive new hcmes develeOp-
merit in the Salem St., Boxford St., Foster St., Winter St., and Summer~'~ St. areas.~ As they
stated, it took 10 ~years to finalize the second fire station and they thought it would be
expedient ~to start planning for the needed third fire station. They requested that a Fire
Station Building Co~.;ttee be appointed to thoroughly explore the needs and Dlanm for this
facility. It was voted to appoint a study committee to ascartain the proper location of
Station 3. Committee to repor~ back to the Board in January, 1978. Selectme~ Guthrie
objected, ~ other members approved. A letter will be sent to Ch~rmun of the Advisory
Board to advise him of the Selectmen,s intentions.
RESIGNATION-I~FA COmmISSION:
Letter from Town Counsel, John J. Willis, containing his resignation from the I~FA Commission.
He stated that the duties of his office as Town C~el leave him very little time to be able
to participate as he should on the I~FA Commission.
ST R~m~' LIGHTS:
Petition received for the inst~!ation of street lights on Johnson Street. Board voted to
refer petition to the electric company for surveys.
MVPC LOCAL TECHNICAL ASSISTanCE:
Letter from Flanuing Board Chairman, W. Salemme, re time element for assistance. Board
voted to write letter stating that they had for some time been concerned on the progress for
a recreation plan for the co~i~mity. The T~m must have an approved recreation plan before it
can be eligible for federal assistance for recreation projects. ~!thongh the amount of time
available is not great, they advised the ~lanning Beard that they ~uld like to see progress
made on this plan. They suggested that maybe some time could be borrowed from next year's
allotment to assist im completing the plan.~

The collision of two planes over the city of Lawrence was discusocd and the Board vote to
send~.letter urging the ins~,~tion of a traffic control tower.
