The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members presents
Selectmen NcE~oy, Salisbury, Joyce and Graham with Chairman Guthrie presiding briefly.
Clerk cf the Board, Ralph R. Joyce presided in the absence of J. Guthrie who had another
scheduled meeting. The ~mrrant and minutes ~mre approved as submitted, including approval
of the P!.~nner's salary.
JIM KE~EDY - STREET LIGHTING:
Jim Eennedy appeared before the Board and advised the Board that Bradstreet Road had two
bug lights that should be replaced. The Board voted to upgrade the lighting on the street.
They also requested Jim to proceed the way he has been going and to come back at a later
date with recommendations on bug lights.
AD HOC COMNITTEE-LAND ACQUISITION:
Letter received from the Flanniug Board re the Ad Hoc Committee to be appointed for the
possible acquisition of 5~, acres of land at Ingalls Crossing site. They recommended that a
representative from the following Boards sit on the Committee: Conservation Commission,
Board of Public Works, Booster Club, Recreation Council, Selectmeu, Planning Board. They
also recommended Scott Fellansbee be appointed. The Board voted to send a letter to the
above-named Boards and Committees asking them to recommend a member to serve on the Ad Hoc
Committee.
GAS E~AVATIONS:
The follm*ing gas excavation petitions to install gas services were approved: Wentworth,
Salem Streets~ Miflin Drive for Greene St., Bradstreet Rd. for Greene St., Lyman Rd. and
Magnolia Drive.
POLE IDCATION:
Petition received to locate a pole(remeve I pole) on Forest St. Hearing set for Nay 21,7:30.
DEAD SKUNK PICX-UPS:
Letter received from the Board of Health requesting that the disposal of dead skunks be
handled by the Animal Control Officer and incorporated into Mr. Northam's regular dutieS,
It was so voted by the Board, effective immediately, and Mr. Northamwillbe so informed by
letter.
RESERVE FUND:
Request approved for transfer of funds to the Special Legal Account to/~n J. Willis, Esq.
forservices rendered in Planning Board suit and sick leave bank.
R~EEIVED:
Invitation to visitWestern Electric plant and to an informal luncheon, Nay 18, 12 noon.
Special Speed Regulations for speed signs on Boxford St. Signed by the Board, sent back.
Application for appointment to the Bd. of Fire Enginsers. Placed on file. Letter sent.
Letter from Dept. of Housing & Urban Development ~e funding.
ReqUest for IIFA financing from Business Systems Research, Inc. IDFA meetingset for
Nay 21st, at 7:30 P.M.
1.~3~BL~FAD ST. TRAFFIC:
Letter reCeived from Sherman Eidleman, P.E. Dept. of Public Works, reviewing the problem
of truck traffic on Marblehead Street. The Board instructed Brian S. to advise Mr.
of the to~'s actions to alleviate the truck traffic.
STOP SIGNS:
Letter. from Chief Donmelly proposed that a "Step" sign be installe~ on Stevens Street, at
the intersection of Osgood Street. ~rs. )~_lia, who lives at the intersection, stated it was
a very dangerous mntersec~mon x~th many accidents and near misses. A b_..~a curve also added
to the danger. The Board voted to bare the "Stop" sign installed and asked Donns!ly if he
would confer with the Tree Warden, Leo Lafond, to see. if trimming the foliage and bushes at
the curve would create more vision.
FIATS BRIDGE:
Chief Donnelly also advised the B card that the Safety Officer, Dushame, and Joe Borgesi had
viewed the .area where a fence had been placed on the Flats Bridge. He said that Joe Borgesi
requested that five "No Parking" signs be placed near the Flats Bridge area where the
had been ins'~lled last year. The Selectmen requested that a letter be sent to the Safety
Officer asking him to submit more specific plaus, as to Just where he ~hought the signs
be placed.
The Selectmen adjourned to joiu the IDFA meeting.
LICENSING COMMISSIONERS:
Applications approved for 1-day licenses: Robert H, 0'Brian, for wedding Nay 20th at tha
B.U Conference Center, 3 to 7 P.M. and Wm. Sutberland, Suffolk University Student Gov. Pres.
for Junior-Senior Outing, Nay 18th, at the B.~. Conference Center, 11 A.M. to 1 A.M.
Stipulation that a Police Officer be present.
