vo~ed to accept the petition and place it on file as we have no money available
at this time. Petitioners will be so notified.
CERTIFICATE 0F CORPORATION: An application was received for a certificate of
corporation under the name of Lawrence Veterans council, Inc. with Arthur
Robinson of 233 Main Street, listed as a Director. On June 2, 194Z, Mr.
Robinson was in District Court on ~¥.o counts, one for violation of Labor
and Industries and one for operating an unbranded equipment for storing oil.
He was found guilty on both charges but they were filed. Application '
held over until the nex~ meebing.

free cash. Mr. Thomson explained that the treasurer had been down to Mr.
Long's office and that apparently approval was given for this article. He
said the Assessor's letter was an approve! although it was not in.so manyL

NE~{ STREET SIGN: A request was received from the residents of Little Road
%o have a new street sign on Little Road. They stated that the one that
is there at the present time is in very poor condition and cannot be 'read.
The Board voted %o refer this ma~er to Mr. CarSy~and request that he erect
a proper sign.
LICENSE TO PEDDLE: Application for a license ~o peddle tonic, canned foods,~
and vegetables in the State of Massachusetts was signed and returned to'applicant
Louis Rimber, 8 Jordan Stre?t, Lawrence.
STATE PRE&~RIES: ~he board approved the following hours for the State Primaries
!0.00 A.M. ~o $.00 P.M. to be held in July.
~STERN ~L~SS.RAILWAY: Letter received regarding request for a five cent fare
b~tween Sutton's Corner and the To~n Building. This would mean a five cent
fare in the center of the line and would complicate our fare collections'and
only a very few people would be affected. Mr. Chase stated that he'had been
advised that the request cannot be granted.
LAWRENCE GAS &ELECTRIC CO: Letter received stating that a 100 :and!~ powers'!
street light was ins~ta!!ed on Pole 147 and was turned on June 7, 1944~.~-~
~SS. SELECT~N'S ASSOCIATION: Letter received from Selectmen of Swampscott
relative.to the annual outing to be held in Swampscott on June 23,24,1944.
Letter from F. Ceville Pray, President of the Association. to the effect'that
an executive committee meeting will be held on June 24, at 10.30'A.M.'.Zo

To see what action, if any will be taken relative to e change in the by-laws
or making the prssident's term of office one year instead of two: on the
subject of raising the annual dues for membership and to take any action or
~ke recommendation introducing any new legislation for 1945.

The regular bi-monthly meeting was held on this del= ~a 7~.00 P4M.' with
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. 01d Age~ls~istance
and Aid to Dependent Children payrolls were also approved.
PLAYGROUND Reverend Cornelius Heyn came beforethe board to discuss'the
possibility of hsvtng a supervised playground am Grogan's Field, similar to
the one at the Drummond..Memorial Playground. The Parent- Teachers Association
have donated $25.00 for this purpose and approximately $75.00 will b~ required
to complete the summer. There will be paid supervisor at'the playground and
it will benefit all the children in this part of t~e town. The Selectmen'
approve this idea but will contact the Advioory Board reEording a transfer
of money from the R~serve Fund at a later date, if this $75.00 is allowed to
be paid from the re~ular playground appropriation. Approval will be given
when a report is received from the Advisory Boar8 regarding this matter~
