Maker, Town Treasurer or his successor to sign a contract for the town end allowing him to have a safety deposit box and that he or his successor will be the only persons to have access to this box, was approved by the board. SCHOOL BA~D.: Letter received ~"rom:.Mr. Pitkin relative to a check for one hundred dollars made out to him. This money is e×pended by Mr. Murray Music teacher, for repairs ~o musical instruments, purchase of instruments instruction and other ex?enses incident to the above. LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC CO: Letter received stating that a 100 candle power street light was installed on 6/14/1944 on pole 3106, Beech Avenue. This light was turned on 6/28/1944. Mr. 01ms came into express thanks to the board for their help in having this light installed, in behalf of the residents of Beech Avenue. COST OF LIVING M~IORAND~.t: received from Department of Labor and Industries. ~t~SSACHUSETTS FEDERATION OF TAXPAYERS: Letter received, also a copy of letter sent ~o Auditor relative to town salaries. JULY 6, 194Z: HEARING ON PETITION OF LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY: for permission to locate poles, wires and fixtures, including the necessary mstaining and prot'ecting fixtures along and across the following public way: ~L On the easterly and westerly sides of Lacy Street, froma point .~approximat=!y 1020 feet southerly from the North Andover-Boxford line, southerly 13 poles. Mr~ Finneran made a motion that the petition be gra~ted end vote was unanimous. JULY 10, The regutar~ meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held and all members were present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. SCHOOL DEPARTMENT: A letter was received from Mr. Pitkin relative to a transfer of $535.00 from the Reserve Fund. Under Article 18 of the.warrastfor ~ the lgA4Ann--~ Town Meeting, $2500-was raised and appropriated for remodeling '~'the~heating sys~em~at'the Union School. The lowest bid received by the School Committee is $3035.~The contract was awarded to Lebowitz Brothers of Lawrence · and it was their intention to pay $2500 from Article 18 and the balance of $535TM ~from theirlregulardepartment appropriation. The Auditor claims that this is not~'the right procedure so the above request was made. Forms were sentte the Advisory Board for their approval. Selectmen approved this transfer. Mr. Thomson made~a motion that this petition he granted and this was seconded by Mr. Finneran, and votad unanimously.~ FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT: A recent, newspaper article referring to a billiondollar program of flood control work after the war approved by the Senate Commerce ~Oommittee was presented by' William B. Duffywho felt that something should be done~about this in regard to the North Andover project. Mr. Thomson made that a letter be sent to Congreesman Thomas J. Lane for his opinion and also"~ asking that he find out for us whether or ne~ this project was onesapproved by the Senate Oommittee'~ and if not, Just.what the present status is.~ Motion was seconded by Mr. Finneran and voted unanimously. SCHOOL DEPARTMF~T: A check for $100 recently held up by the Board for further information was released on this date. Check for $100 is used ~o purchase musical instruments and also have them repaired. APPEAL BOARD: Mr. John Alter came before the board and stated that they woul~ like to get reinforcement of the law and asked if the other members might come before the board. The SJestrom residence was discussed and Mr. ~lter said the property had been purchased by a Mr. Brien in S$~tember 1942. In December 1943
