BUILDING PERMIT: Approval was given/by the Board of Selectmen for permission
to build a garage adjacent ~o his house, approximately g~ feet. There will be
a concrete foundation and floor, 22' square and 8 ' at eaves. It is to be of
wood construction with shingles and asphalt shingles on roof. In the absence
of Martin J. Lawlor, building inspector, the Board granted a permit which will
be approved by Mr. Lawlor when he returns to his home.
HEARING-LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC C0.: A hearing was held at 2.30 P.M. on. petition
of Lawrence G & E C0. requesting permission to locate poles on Lacy Street.
(3 poles), two existing locations to be abandoned. Motion was made and. seconded
to grant this petition and vote was unanimous.
REPORT FROM POLICE CHIEF: Report received from Chief McEee-that the dumping
on the Kunhardt property was-apparently being dgne by the owners and it looked
as if they were trying to fill in an old cellar. C~llar is about 100 feet from
the lake and the Chief feels sure that no dumping is going on at this time.
The cans that have been thrown there are rus~y and must have'been there.at
least a year.
APPROPRIATION BALANCES: -Received through July 31~ 1944 on 'this date.
INSURANCE POLICY: Policy and endorsement from the Aetna Oasualty and
Company to the effect that the insurance afforded by the Policy also ap~iie~
to the following operaticns: Telephone, telegraph and fmre alarm iine'c5nstruction,
including drivers, chauffeurs and their helpers. N.P.D. with 7600 Tel'. & Tel. Companies.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS-CHAPTER' 90. Card received:relative to a public bearing
for Essex County for the open discussion of ~uestionsrelating 'to 'public roads,
in accordance with provisions of Chapter 90. in the Court House, Sale~,,~ug.18,1944

Meeting adjourned.
The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was. held on th~s' date with all
members present. Weekly .bills and payroll~ were approved.

drawn by Mr. Foster, to serve at Superior Court, Salem, Mass. on Sept~ll,1944.

Andover, was drawn by Mr. Finneran ~o serve at Superior. Court, Lawrence-on Sept.

LETTER: dated 8/17/1944 informing us that a shield has 'been installed
pole No. 56 on Second Street toshield # 99 S~cond St.
LOCALHISTORIGAL COMMITTEES: A bulletin ~as received from the Mass; Committee
on Public Safety urging the esl~ablishment of local historical committees, due
to the recent progress of the war. Thig matter was discussedwith Jgsephi
Duncan, town clerk, who is willing to serve on the committee. Mr. Thomson
made a motion that Commander of the Legion be contacted and that he form'a
committee from the Legion and Auxiliary and work with Mr. ~uncan. Mr..J. Howard
Edwards, Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety, 18 Tremont St. Boston 8, will
confer with local officials in various communities ~nd'~iscuss any problems they.
may have... Commander Fred B. Eaton of 23 Saunders StJ willbe botified and
requested to take up this matter with the members of the Legion.
RESERVE FUND: TRANSFERS: ' It was voted to transfer $37.13 from the Reserve Fund
to the Annual Town Reports Appropriation. Motion was made and seconded that
this amount be transferred and voted was unanimous.
