The CAA.wants to be sure that leaving the final 300 feet of the old runway in its present existing '. condition would no~ be considered am a reason for refusing.to allow removal of the trees when the new runway surface is completed and ends 500' norhh of Sutton Street. THE Board replied to this letter in further interpretation of thei~ vote of May 25, 1943, as amended on June 15, 1943, stating that they did not expect.~he City o~Lawrence or the Civil Aeronautics Administration to improve or rebuild the present and existing seotion of the NNW-SSE runway of the Lawrence Muhicipat Airport ~ithin'300' of its existing southerly terminus, which point is now approximately gOO' north of Sutton Street, making a total distance of approximately 500' north of Sutton not to be improved or rebuilt as a runway. ~R~TING ADJOURNED. FIRE WHISTLE-STEVENS MILL Mr. Hargreaves came before the Board to discuss the possibility of having a hearing to find out the reactign of the 'pe~pSe. in the vicinity of. tevena Mill, when the new whistle is placed there. It-will be very shrill and ]~ would be placed on top of the mill. Mr..~,homson stated' that there is no provision in the law requiring a hearing and if Mr~ Hargreaves felt that this whistle should .be installed, he should go ahead with his plans. Mr. Hargreaves this whistle would save a'considerable sum of mort'ay. .It Would be necessary to have tappers in the homes if the whistle is no~.~'i~s~alled. LA~ENCE GAS & ELECTRIC 00. Mr. Thomson made a motion to grant this request, sseconded by Mr. Finneran and vote was unanimous. TREE REMOVAL: Hearing held on this date on the request for'removal of~' tree at 24 Thorndike Rd, by-Joseph Montgomery. There was no opposition and the board voted unanimously to grant this request..The tree makes;~ the house dark and damp and .no. sunlight can get into the house. CLARK STREET: Mr. Foster stated that no work ha~ been done on'Clark"~t~et as yet and hewondered if the City'cf Lawrence were going to d$ anY~asO~Hey had promised some time ago that this.would be taken care of. Mr. Finneran suggested that we talk with~'~'h'ie'f McKee about this matter.
