with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
CO~MUNITY HISTORICAL CO~ITTEEAPPOINTI~ENT:
The Board voted unanimously to appoint Fred E. Pitkin, Chairman of the Community
Historical Committee. Motion was made by Mr. Thomson¥ seconded by Mr. Finneran.
CLA~X STREET:
A letter was received from Gordon E. Ga~fney, City Clerk of Lawrence, in reply
to our letter of September 26, in reference to the recnnstruction of Clark Street.
Mr. Gaffney explained that the City of Lawrence had called for bids to have
this work completed, which includes scarifying the existing roadway surface;
placing additional gravel on the roadway to grade and shape the surface; widening
the roadway under the accepted plan; penetrating the gravel surface with Tarvia
and'rolling the roadway; and forming a gravel sidewalk on the easterly side of
the roadway. The Contrac~ was awarded to Louis C. C2r but due to the fact that
he has had a difficult repair Job on the.Ward Five Outfall Sewer,.for the City
~cf Lawrence he has been delayed in starting. Hehaa assured the City Clerk
~that he intends to star,work on Clark within a week or ten days. Letter dated
September 29,1944.
VOTING HOURS:
The board voted to have the po!t~opemfrom 9:~0 A. M. until 8:00 P.M. on
November 7, 19A4. Requesm made by Mr. Joseph Duncan.
DOG'Co~PLAINT: '
Mr. Michael Xane, came before the Board and requested that thel petition,which.
he had previously left at this office, be putthrough the r~gu!archannels~
He said thab the owner of the dogs had .previously talked with the Police,
Dog officer and neighbors and had promised to get rid of the dogs by the
e~ of Sep%ember.. Since he has not kept his word, ~r. Kane feels that he
should go along with his petition.
Mr. Thomson made a motion that a Hearing be held on October 16, 1944a~ 7.30
P.M. in the Selec%men's Office, which was seconded by Mr. Finnersn and voted
unanimously..
John~. Dineem called at this office on October 2, 1944and explained that
he had no% been able to get rid of the dogs as he had planned. Be said he
has spent a considerable of money on them and'did not want %o lose all of it
by being hasty in disposing of th~ dogs. Mr. Dineen feels that the petition
is unwarranted and that the people who ~ave signed it have been misinformed.
'Ne will be .glad to talk to them at the hearing if it is held.
sTATE AID:
The- following state aid was approved by the Board of Selectmen: World War I
Ruth Carey 10.00; Margaret Twomey, $10.00; War Allowance, Corde]
John J, Connors $13.00, a total of $53.00.

A~'.ER~CAN LEGION: An invitation was received from the Lawrence Post, Number 15,
i~Viting the boardof Selectmen to attend the Installation of Officers.to .be
held on October ~%, 1944 at eight o'clock. The invitation was accepted with
pIeasure and will be acknowledged.
STEVEN'S HALE: Request for permission to use Stevens Ball on Friday, October
13, 1944was received from the North Andover Athletic Association. This is
for a benefitdance for one of the members. Permission was granted by unanimous
VOtS.
TRANSFERS FROM RESERVE FUND: The following votes were taken at t~fs meeting
fo'.the transfers of various sums from the Reserve Funds
That the sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300) be ~ransferred from the Reserve
~ndto the Old Age Assistance Appropriation.
'Tha~ the sum of Four ~undred Dollars ($400) be transferred from ~e Reserve
~und to the Outside Relief and Repairs Appropriation.
That the sum of Thirty- Three D~llars and Ninety-two cents ($33.92) be
transferred from the Reserve Fund to the Custodian Tax Title Account Expense.
