PEI~NENT MEMORIAL CO~I'ITE~
Rev.,Cornelius Heyn requested that a hearing be set for the Flag Committee to
meet with the Sel6ctnen to discuss the possibility of s permanent memorial.
Mr. HeYn would like the Board of Selectmen to appoint a Committs, which
'should he of interest ~o evorybody in the town..
Mr; Finneran believes that this present connit~ee should act as the committee
to plan this permanent memorial but Mr. Heyn does no~ believe that this is
a committee was nom a good representative committee and Mr. Thomson agreed
~ith him.
· Mr. Thomson feels that Tavern Acres might be a s~itabie place for a memorial~
'Suggestions as mo the memorial have been:, a new high school, a new meeting hall,
~and various other. It,was voted to hold this hearing on Novemberl3, 1944 at
· 7.45 P.M. and at that time suggestion could be offered and also araangements
made for a committee to be formed which would represenm the entire mown.
Meeting Adjourned
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectnen was held at 7.00 P.M.
'with all members present. Weekly bills ahd payrolls were approved.
AMERICAN LEGION INVITATIOM:
~An'~nvitation fromthe American Legion, Post 219, for the Board to attend the
· Armistice Day exercises mo be held on November 11, 1944, was· accepted, with
thanks and Mr. Barrington will be so notified..
GROGAN'S FIELD APPROPRIATION:
A request from Mr. Rivet for a transfer of $!O0from the Reserve to take.care
of outstanding bills amounting to $95.05 was not granted. It was voted to
~request that Mr. Rivet figure the amounm of money needed for the balance and,
ask for the full amount rather than make two separate requests., and ask that
he appear at the meeting on'November 13, with his figures. .

An'anonymous letter was received by, Mt. Foster regarding the number of.R,
and democrats a~ the pollsin Precinc~ 2. No action was maken on thi
letter although Mr..FosterLststed that this matter has been carefully checked
~ by the town clerk, Mr. Duncan.
APPEAL BOARD:
Mr.-~2homson stated that recently the Appeal Board had discussed themfee for
fines,for violation of the ordinance relative to the Appeal Board and to date ~.
~:'i~'~ehave~n0 definite information. It was voted to contact Mr. Mahoney by letter-
:and reques~ that he check on this matter and come in to see us with this
:i'~fo~mation.
'~TOWN AUDITOR:
Mr."James Elliott and ~ames Maker came to the meeting to discuss the matter
bf'his continuing in his present position for the duration of the war. Mr. Elliot
~adibeen down to Bosmon to seeMr. Waddell in ~egard to abolishing the position,~
.~[.Auditor andsubstituting an Accountant which is in com~liA~ee with the State
~System. Mr. Elliott would like to'have Miss Finn appointed as the Ac§$~tant
a[~she is capable of doing the work. It was ~oted to send a letter to the,
Retirement Boardand request continuance of Mr. Elliott's services as Auditor
for. the duration of the war or until the sxpiration of his term of office,
whichever occurs firsm. Mr. Elliott will think this matter over and decide
wha~ he really wants to do before the March election.
