AR~ICLE:
John Pillion came in to present an article relative %o liquor licenses in
several sections of the town.
.,.HIGHWAY DEPART~ENT:
Mr.'Ferdinand 0. Kruger of 66 May Street came~fore the bosr~ regarding an
article which had been sent in for a sidewalk on May Street. Mr. Kruger wanted
~tOknow if the applicants had ~o pay for this tarvia sidewalk and if so , he
will withdraw his article. He statedtthat the Highway Department had paid for
%arvia'sidewalk~ on Saunders Street and he did not feel that the people on,his
s~ree~ should have to pay for the same type of sidewalk.
Mr. Maker statedthatwe have no sidewalk assessment in North Andover, to his
knowledge. Mr..Kruger was advised to leave the article as it is and allow it to
be inserted in the warrant.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Mr. Hargreaves presented~a letter relative to the amount of money paid to forest
fire workers. He felt that they should receive an increase and he wanted to
know if the board would approve of this. -
Mr. Thomson thinks that the increase wouldbe entirely up tothe fire warden
and the other memSersfeel that this is the_core,ct way cf handling this matter.
.M~. Hargreaves stated that these men are not compelled to attend any forest fires
and under the new increase they would receive one dollar for the first·hour and
sevsnty-five cents for each additional hour and any par: of an hour~
Mr. Hargreaves willtake this matter into his own hands.and give the increase,·
as he,sees fit. The Board agreed that,this is the right procedure.
Mr2 Thomson asked what the possibility was of flooding the Thomson School:for'

kating.but ~r. Hargreaves expla~ne~ that Mr. Dully requested that~they refrain
from.usingwater for this purpo~eas it does not stay in place and it is Justs
waste,.of water.·

The regular weekly meeting of.the Board of Selectmen was held on this day at 7.00
· ~P, ~M.
' VETERAN'S' BURIAL LOT:
Harold P. Barrington, town ~urial agenta and Myron B. Lewis reported to the board
inyth~ir capacity as members;of a-committee appointed by the selectmen in 1939
· o,:.have.:charge of the lot when it wa~ purchased. The Board felt that this
Committee should be continuadalthough Mr. Lewiswould be glad to be'dismissed.
Mr. Lewis pointed ou~ that the lot was puchased for North Andover residents.of ~
Catholic faith who are veterans of all wars and no one knows the faith of the.Un~:,
known.person. It is also fair to assume that the unidentified person is not a
Veteran~
Mr.'Barring~on would like to know if~a person has to be a veteran of North Andover
or hasto live in North Andover for any certain length of time. He believes also
that no person presumed to be a Veteran should be interred in this burial lot
without written permission of the Burial Agent.
