UNITED NATIONAL CLOTHING COLLECTION
A telegram from Henry J. Keyser, National Chairman of the United Nationa~LClothing Collection
requesting that some outstanding citizen be appointed to take over this important Job in this
town was read, and it was voted to turn this matter over to the Legion. A~letter was sent to
Commander Louis P. Saunders, and if the Legion is to take over this work, s chairman will be
appointe~ by them.
STREET DEPARTMENT:
Mr. Ernest Ohms, of Beech Avenue came before the Board to'discuss the condition existing on
this street. Mr~ .Ohms stated that there had'been an accident this week when a car wentoff the
'road and was unable mo ge~ out. The car went down to the mud guards and three
springs were broken. After each storm the condition ofthe road is very poor
and the mud is very thick. There is a depression of about 12 inches in f~ont
of Mr. Wademan's property~ .~" ~
Mr. Ohms asked if a special appropriation of approximately $1500 could'be .m~de
at the town meeting to take care of a surface drain to clear up this situation.
Mr. Thomson stated that it is too late ~o consider this as only articles'in the
warran~ can be considered. If there were a special town meeting this article
could beinserted in the warrant.
Mr. Thomson suggested thstMr. ,Catty may.be able to' help in th~s ma~er a~d
the board voted to take this matterup with Mr, Carty and let Mr~ Ohms~know
what the outcome is..This was agreeable with Mr. Ohms.
Meeting adjourned to the CourtRoom ~o hold the hearing on thetransfer of~ithe
license of the North Andover Package Store, Inc.'to 140 Main Street.

The regular wee~'~ly meeting of the Board of Selectman was held at 7:00 P.MA
with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. ' '~i

A statement wasrece[ved from the Division of C~il S~rvice that
provisional appointment had expired on December 31, 1944 and that a form~
(termination of employment) would be required. The hoard:suggested to
letter to.the Director advising him that t~e Head Of the Del

a continuance of this appointment as he is necessary.to the department t~fi~l
in a~ a military substitute ....

REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVAL~
A request was received from Frank L~wis, 14 Highland Terrace for .remova~ of
a tree on Highl~nd Terrace which is close to '~he house and is bucking up t~e
sidewalk. The roots have grown into the drain and the house is dark anddamp.
