Payson has been received for appointmen~ as a member of the North Andover War Price and Rationing Board. SALVATION APJ~Y: A~letter expressing appreciation for the generous contribution toward the 1945 Annual Campaign was received. North Andover Town Building employes contributed $25.00. RELEASE: ~A release signed by Nathan and Celia Pearl in consideration of $75.00 for injuries received by Celia Pearl caused by a~fall on or about January 10,1944 on Main Street, North Andover. LA¥~P~ENCE GAS & ELECTRIC CO. *S~REET LIGHT A letter stating that it mould not be' possible toinstall a street light on Polel$70 on §reatPond Road as an extension of the circuit of more than 500 feet would be required and would not be allowed:under present restrictions, was~received. The letter further states that a light can be installed~ nUmber 1869 if satisfactory,, and this was found to beso. A letter will be sentimo the Lawrence Gas & Electric-Co. advising them of this matter. I'AM AN AMERICAN DAY: ,A ~second letter, was received from the.U.S. Department of Labor, Immigration and,Naturalization SerVice requesting the Board to send names of the executive officers of Civic, educational and patriotic organizations, if~'~ the Town cannot undertake the sponsorship of the celebration planned for May. 20, 1945. The'board felt thatthe American Legion and Auxiliary could 'take this matter over-better than any other organization and a letter will ~be sent totthe Legion Command~r% ~TERAN'S AID AND PE~SIONS: The following amount were approved by the Board of Selectmen: Sohpia Eane SPanish-War, $10.00 World War I, Ruth ~arey, Margaret Twomey, $10.00 each ~ Meeting adjourned; ~.~ ~ The regula~ w~ekly' meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. ~ ~with all members ~present. ~ Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. ~'~LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY: ~ iA ~public hearing was hel~ on ..tHis day on the petition of the La~ence Gas &' Electric 0ompany to construct a line of underground electric conduits on the Ea~sterly side of Elm Street, a distance of approximately 5 feet, 1 duct. Mr. · Finneran made a motion to approve this petition which was seconded by Mr. ~Th~mson and voted ~manimously. FIRE DEPARTMENT: · . ~Chief ~ames Hargreaves came before the board to see if it would legal ~o use '%he.~money which they received from an old truck from ~he Mack Company(S107). The department planned no buy tools which would actually belong ~o the town. ~r. Thomson stated that the money did no~ actually belong ~o the town as $100 had already been allowed by the Mack Company when the new truck was purchased. The Board agreed unanimously that this would be a good idea to purchase these · tools~ and the ~ovrn would benefitby having them available. ENGINEER'S INCREASE: Mr~ Hargreaves stated that the board had reorganized for the coming year and they wanted to increase the salary of two of the engineers from~P~l~ ~o $350 per year. There will be no need of having a man for the a~bulance as the presen~ engineers would help when necessary. This is the understanding if.the increase is granted. Mr.~Thomson made a motion that starting May 1, 1945 the salary of each engineer of the Fire Department be increased to$350, but Mr. Hargreaves stated that this increase would apply only mo the two engineers, Mr~ Eane and Mr. Koenig.
