Laurence Aaronian again discussed the water sit~ation at the fire on Sunday, May 2?, and stated that the fire could have been p~t out if the department had had water. He again stated 'the conditions previously mentioned~ Leo Kane and Chief ~argreaves were at the meeting and Mr. Kane S~aid ~ had wa~er on one line .and 'the truck .was on'the- dead line. Chief ~argreaves said he arrived at the fire at sixo'clock and Eane got down there almost as soon as the fire truck. Mr. Kane said the lines were 1Aid immediately and 'the ~uilding was -burning rapidly and the flames were coming out the front door. They had to move the fire truck so that it wouldn't get scorched. They got water at once ~ut couldn't use the other line.. Mr. Hargreaves said.that Mr. Aaronian ~tated that it' took: t'he Department an hour_to get there and the truck was no good nor were the men.- N~.~Thomson asked how soon before the water got started and Mr. Hargreaves said it was ten minutes. ' Mr. Hargreaves stated that ~. Aaronian attemped to get the horses out of the barn but it' was too hot and nothing Could be done. When Mr. D~ffy came down Se stated that the water is 0~K,' ~ut the ~pin in one of the gate valves was broken and the water couldn't 'go through.. .. Mr.. Thomson asked if a fireman called mr. Dully and Mr'. A~roniaz stated that was 'true ~ut he didnot know him ~y name. 'Mr. Hargreaves explained that the handle on the gate was ~roken :land that when a man is on a hydrant, he has to stay there ~ut the fireman who was on the hydrant knew what the trouble ~a~,.and there was no reason why he' should have some~body Calll Mr?Dully. i' ... Mr~. Aaronian repeatedly stated~that ~if this thing happened to a ~.~house o~ a school and there were children in them, nothing ~ould beck. done to'save them if no water was available. ~ Mr~Foster stated that he felt that defective equipment was the . cause and Aaronian stated that he did not know who wired thebarn, Mr. Hargreaves said that all the firemen were there except one who is ill and in the hospital. · Mr~ ~'oster said that Mr. Aaronian asked for reimbursement but does ~not know of any way the town'could make an adjustment. There seems to be a difference of opinion of the water question. ~Mr. Hargreaves stated he is generally on the cutlet end and he ~ s~d.it ~seems ages beforethe water comes through. He doesn"t ~'bzame anybody for getting excited at a time like this. ' ' Mr. Fi~nersn stated ttmt we have a difference of opinion here and I feel that there ia nothing to be taken under advisement. Mr. Thomson explained that Mr. Aaronian had asked for assistance in building a barn. Mr. Finneran then seconded Mr. Thomscn's~ ~ · motion which was a unanimous vote. FIRE 'DEPARTMENT-Astonish Fire: ~' - -Mr. ~honey was asked to find out if we could legally to tny~hing for Mr. Astonish in regard 'to his bar~ which burned' down. 'The board voted to send a letter to William B. Daffy requesting 'that. he turn the gate over to the..Selectmen as the proper authorities..
