Costello of 17 Merrimack Street for removal of a maple tree in front of his home which is destmActive to his property. Mr. Conners was montacted and it was voted to post the tree and set a hearing for September 10, 1945 at 7:30 P.M. in the Selectmen's Office, TREE C0~PLAR~T- ~.~. Phelan, First Street. John J. Conners came before the board and stated that the tree had a cracked limb but that no request had been made to have either the tree or the limb removed. Mr. Conners stated that the tree probably had been weakened by a storm and that had they known the limb was cracked they would have removedit without any request from~. Mr. Thomson stated thet he didnot feel the Selectmen had any right to sell anytking for the town · until an article was inserted in the town warrant. The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all members present. Weekly payrolls and bills were~approved. D~CAT~ON OF S-UARES THROUGHOUTTHE TOWN: _ Y~ouis P. Saunders,/~oseph M. Tricket~ and 3harles Davis, members of ~he American · Legion, came before the .board to discuss the matter of naming squares after Veterans who are deceased. At a vote taken at the mos~ recen~ Legio~ meeting,~ it was-voted that nothing should bedo~e at p~esent. They fei~that'a pe~mgnent~ Committee should be appointedfrom members ofithe Legionto take care of this ~ Charles Davis stated thet heis in favor of dedicating the Squares but one problem is .that thare ~re 27 names on the list ~nd one has been maken care of at"the Center. .Be stated that all the boys ale the same to him and he felt that no. preference should be given to any one boy.
