A snow removal emergency was declared by the Noard of Selectmen on 12/29/194~ at six o'clock P.M. A grand Juror was drawn by Joseph M. Finneran to se~e in Superior Court at Salem, on January 14, 1945 and the name of Fred D. Whittier of 933 Great Pond Road.listed as Farmer, was drawn. A traverse Juror, drawn by Harry Fcster to serve in Superior Criminal Court a~ Salem on January 21, 1945 and the name was Raymond J. Briggs, 395 MaimStreet and listed as a clerk. ..REQUEST- CHANGE IN BUS SERVICE Mr. Finaeran received several requests from residents at the Center who woula like to have the bus which leaves the Center at 8:45 A.M. on Sundays changed so that it would leave at $:40. A.M. and this would getthese people to St. Michael's Church so that they would not be late for mass. Mr. Garfield Chase aZ the: Eastern Mass. Railway Company will be contacted to see if this request can be granted. p~G COMPLAINT A letter was received~from Robert L. Ycung of 175 Salem Street, NorthAndcv~r about a barking dcg, owned by Stephen D~rsc, of 1S0 Johnson Street which is a public nuisance because of.the excessive barking. A hearing was set by the Selectmen for January 14, 1946at 7:30 P.M. to determine if this dog wouldbe considered a nuisance by reason of excessive barking. Mr. Young and Mr. Dursc w~ll be notified of.this hearing. -- ~TREET MGHTREQUEST A request for a street light to be installed on Elmwood Street wasreceived' f~om Santo Messlna. He stated that thisis a very aark.street and a street~ light would help considerably. The board voted ~o hold this over until the next meeting. BONDS FOR TREASURER AND TAX COLLECTOR The following amounts have been established as the amounts as not less than which the 1946 bond for the' Treasurer and Tax Collector shall be written~ Treasurer - James~Maker $40,500 Irging Rintom 40,300 The above amount~ are not less than the minimum determined in each case by the Commissioner of Corporations and Taxation for the above stated year.under the provisions~of Section 13 of Chapter 60 of the ~neral Laws, as last amended by Chapter. 308 of the Acts of 1941. Long, Commissioner. ~EPARTMENT OF CORPORATIONS AND TAXATIONS Letter received from Commissioner Long relative to land taken as ~ax posseSsions and ~as there appears to be a ready market for vacant land it was. suggested. ~that a survey be made of such land owned by this municipality and advertise such property so that persons generally will know about this land. The Board feels that Mr. Maker is handling, this situation very well at this time a~d that no survey, is · necessary. ~_~ ,. ~)EPA~TMENT OF EDUO~TION Ratification received that the applications of the following pupils have ,been approved to attend Boston Trade Evening Classes: George. W. Beaumont, 2~ Main St. Joseph S..Bettencourt, 147 Bailroad Ave. and Joseph S. Still~el, 22 Irving Road. Rate of tuition at this school is 15¢ per hour. - . ~I~E~I~AN LEG;ON -~K~TING ARE~. S A letter was received from the American Legion Post #219 relative to providing some suitable places throughout the town which may be used for skating for the young people of the town. This request is made following the sttrvey conducted concerning the possibility of fencing the ponds where skating is generally enjoyed. The Selectmen 'will appoint a committee to check on the various places in town and report to the board. DEPARTMENT OF ~;ATION Notice received that the liability of the town for 1946 is $3754.68 and this amount is required by Chapter 132, Section 14, of the General laws. On December 13, 1945, installed 100 Candle Power Street Lights on Pole 1065 on Massachusetts~Avenue and on Pole 2761 on Glenwood Avenue. On Decmmber 11, 1945, installed 100 candle power street lights on Pole 796 Thorndike Road and on Pole 799, Perley Road. TRANSFERS FROM ADVISORY BOARD: Approval was received from the Advisory Board that the sum of $1374.91 was transferred from the Reserve Fund to the Highway Department to take care-of labor bills for snow removal. Mr. HeWn and Mr. Saunders ~ ,- fglt' ,this was an excellent idea and they will submit an article for the ' ~own' w arrant. - - '-~ ~TTNG RINK James Hargreaves appeared'before the board to make a report on behalf of the Committee recently appointed to make a survey of the town for suitable places :for skating rinks. The committee discussed this matter with Mr. Arel of the Brooks School because of the experience they have had and they feel that it will probably dost about $1500 for each rink. The rinks can be used for tennis courts in the summer. They first put in a layer of gravel, then crus stone and road tar on top.
