STEVENS HALL-AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC UNIT:
Mr. L. J. Supple saleman for the ROBOT" automatic electric
unit called and left a sample . He was referred to this office to discuss~
this unit with the' Selectmen. The cost will be approximately $80.00
and will last six to eight years. No action was taken on this matter.

MEETING ADJOURNED
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Thomson was not present at this meeting. Weekly bills and payrolls were
approved.
TREE R~MOVALRE._UEST
A request for removal of a tree at 82 Pleasant Street was received from Thomas
McGrail of that address. The BAard voted to.refer this to John J. Connors
and set s hearing for February.~l, 1946 nt 7:30 P.M. Mr. Connors came in to
the meeting and stated that he had seen this tree and felt that it should be
'rsmovsd.
Request for removal if a ~ree at 5 Perry Street was received from Mr. Alden
Hill of that address~ 'The tree is very ~-"j~ cod is breaking up the
lifting blocks and causing a hazardous condition. Mr. Connors checked on this
tree and feels that it should he removed. A hearing was se~ for Februaryll,
1946 at 7:15 P.M.
PI~NNING BOARD REPORT:
The Plan~ing Board submitted their Annual Report for the year ending December
31, 1945. They ~eld !1 regular meetings during tbs year. 'The preliminary
p!ans~f Mifflin Park were approved and after a-public hearing, the final .......
plans were received and the entire matter taken under advisement.
Plans' for the new playground at the old sand bank on Massachusetts Avenue
was received and an article has been inserted in the warrant (1946) asking the
Town ~o raise and appropriate a sum not to exceed $14,500 for this purpose.
BATHING BF. ACM COMMITTEE
Mr. James Bannan came %efore this Board and stated that the Committee had held~L
a meeting and ~oted ~o have one member come before the board and mum the
bathing beach over to the~Selectmen. 0nly three members were present at this~L.
meeting; Alfred McKee, Ernest Smith 'and James Barman. They feel that a new
committee .s~uld be appointed by the Moderator as the present one has served a
.j~long time'and is not functioning properly. He also stated that there has been
no increase in the appropriation since 1927 and they feel that they will have
to pa~ larger wages to the life guards' this year and they have inserted· an
article in the' 1946 town warrant for $3,000 ~o take care of this matter
to repair the bath house and beach.
Mr. Foster felt that this report should be accepted and Mr. Finneran made a
~otion to accept this report, and forward same to 'the Moderator. Mr. Foster
seconded this motion. Mr. Thomson was not present.
EQUAL COMPENSATION.FOR MEN AND WOMEN TEACHERS:
Mr. Mahoney came before the board and read his report on the above matter.
He also read the Act-Chapter 727 and s x,~ling from the Attorney General which
stomas that it is to be brought before a meeting in a town and no mention is
made of ballot. Generally the legislature makes its meaning clear. The
Selectmen have no power to direct the Town Clerk mo place this question on
.the ballot and there is nothing in the Act itself which so directs. The
appropriate method, to bring the equal pay for women questionbefore the vo~ers
is to have it appear in the ToE warrant as follows: Shall an act passed by
the general court in the year 1945, entitled "An Act relative to equal pay for
men and women teachers," be in force in this city (or town? approved July 25,

EASTERN MASS. RAILWAY C0~PANYREQUEST:
Mr. William Donohue asked the Selectmen if they would request that the bus
which arrives at the B & M Station in North Andover at 11.30 P. M., be held
over until that Boston train comes in around the~same'~time. He has a child
and there are others who come in on that troin and just miss the bus, which
means that they have. to walk up to the Center. Mr. Garfield Chase will be
contacted about this matter.
