The following amounts were approved by the Board : Sophia Kane 910.00
Ruth Carey $10.00, Margare~ Twomey $10.00 for state aid and O. E. Donovan
for $60.00 for military aid.
P~ESIGNATION:
The resignation of James W. Elliott as Town Auditor was received and was to
become effective as of February 25, 1946. Mr. Thomson made a motion that 'the
resignahion of Mr. E!liott be accepted with regret and that the chairman~be
authorized to draw up resolutions and that such resolutions be spread upon
our records and a copy of them shall be sent to Mr. E!liott. Mr. Finneran
seconded the motion and vote was unanimous.
Mr. Thomson made s motion as follows: In accordance with the vote of the'
town on Artic!e 16 a~ the 1945 town meeting, the position of auditor be ..
abolished. Vote was unanimous. ' '~
Mr. Thomson made a motion to establish the office o£ town acccun~an~ and im
accordance with Chapter.41, Section 55, General Laws, Miss Mary Finn be
appointed to office of town accountant.A'oMotion'~sgconded by Mr. Finneran and
was unanimous vote. The appointment is for thr~e years and salary will be
set 'later; At a later discussion, the board' voted to .se~ the salary of the
town accountant at $40.00 starting with'the week of February 28, 1946, weekly.

The regular weekly ~eeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M~
with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls approved for payment.

Chief~r~reaves presented a letter to the Board which.he, received from Freeman
J. Davit informing him 'that on February 20,1946 The North Andover ambulance"
driven by Christopher Bi~gibbottom skidded and hit his car which was pa~d
outside his home. The estimated'cos% of this. damage by the Metropolitan
Auto Body Shop-is' $25.00. Mr. Thomson made emotion ~o pay this bill and obtain
a release from Mr. Davis. Motion seconded by Mr. Finneran and vote was unanimous.
LETTER OF APPRECIATION:
A letter was receive~'from Mary T, Finn.expressinggratituds to the~boa~d~'~in
appointing her TownAccountant and informing them that she will cooperate in
every way and conduct the duties of the office in scapable and efficient ~
manner.

Letter received from Mr. Henry.Long directing attention to Oahp~ers 55,371i
51, and Chapter 44. Filed under Department of Corporations and Taxations.
DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIES:
Retail price index of zpecific goods and services in large Mass; cities and
tables showing comparative index figures and percentage ~hanges were received.
Index showed an increase in fuel oil and a most notable chanze in retail esg
prices.
