POLICE DEPARTMENT -continued
The other signs requested by the Hoard of Selectmen to be erected an Main Street
between the Library and Chi~kering Road will be taken care of. Chief Mcgee
has also been requested by the School Department to have warning signs erected
at the different schools. The Chief asked if the money for these signs could
be taken from the contingent as he did not feel that he hsd sufficient in his
appropriation to take the cost of these signs out. The board discussed this
matter and decided to have the Chief make a survey of the townfor future signs
and then ask for an additional appropriation to take care of them. They voted
to ask the Chief to check on the cost of these additional signs and to appear
at the next meeting and go over the matter of making a survey of the town.
CC,~UNITY CENTE~
A request for permission ~o use the Center Playground to conduct a fair on
Saturday, September 14, 1946was received from the Community Center, !nc. and
the board voted unanimously zc grant permission, subject to the approval of
the~Board of Public Works.
FZ~EENGINEERS:
The~matter of appointing an engineer to replace Leo Eane was taken up again.
Mr. Salisbury stated that Mr. Curry had requested that his name be withdrawn
and he(Mr. Salisbury) now felt that he could vote for one of the nominees
now name~. Ne said he had given thematter considerable thought withinthe
last few days and out of the three men%ion~d~ he felt that he could choose
a man who has had experience and he thought that this matter was of more
importance to the other members than to have a man o~ the board with no
personal interest. He said he wished to consider the nomination of. Arthur
Broderick.
Mr. Thomson he felt that hl %as not sure that a motion had been placed before
the board for the appointment of Mr. Nroderick since the names had been
ndminated by specific motions made.
Mr.~Finneran then made a motion that Arthur Nrcderick be appointed as engineer
of the'Firs'Department. Mr. Salisbury seconded this motion and it'was a majority
vote~Mr..~ Thomson wished to be recorded as not voting. ·
.RAILROAD AVE & NIGH BUS:
Mr. Pinneran had received a call asking for better service on, Sundays and ho!i-
'days on this line and the party was interested in morning buses on Sundays as
they were no~ able to get to Church. The party would ~ive no name but Mr.
Salisbury will take up this matter with Mr. Chase when hediscusses the bus
stop matter on Andover Street.
STREET LIGHT:
Mr. Fros~ informed this office that the s~reet !ight~requested on 122 ~nion
Street could not be installed as they are unable to get material for this work.
Mr.D'Anjou will be' so notified.
SPECIAL ~ONSTABLE:
Thomas E. McEvoy of, 28 Second Street was appointed special constable by the
unanimous vote ~f the board.

The regular weekly meeting' ~f th~ Board of Selectmen was held~on this ~ amd
all..membere ware present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
~;A~.IC~ LEGION AUXILIARY~
~ invitation .was received from the American ,Legion Au~liary inviting the
Board 'of Selectmen to attend their installation to he held om September 23,
19~6, The board voted unanimously to accept the invitation and acknowledge same.
POLICE DEPARTM~
Chlef Mcgee informed l~he board that he has been unable to secure prices for the
warning signs which ,were requested recently by the Board of Selectmen for
various' sectio~ of the townl The Chief informed the board that he wcul~ try
and have the available figures for the next. meeting.
S~EET LIGHT- GREAT POND ROAD:i
A letter received from the Lawrenc~ Gas & Electric Compa:~ relative to a
street light located where the ice house was formerly situated and charged to
the Lawrence Ice Company. The board voted unanimously to have this light remain
at this location and have it charged to the town.as this is considered a very
darksection'of the town. Lawrence G &E Co. will be so .
