TREE REMOVALRF~UEST:
A request from Evelyn ~. Platt of 309 Andover Street for the removal o~
a large tree in front of her property was received and theboard voted'~
to refer this matter to the tree warden. Later the tree warden reported
that this tree is on a state highway and he informed Mrs. Plat~ who will
take this matter up with the State Department.
FLASHING BEACON:
A letter from the Department of Public Works to Chief McKee was referred
to the Selectmen for their approval. Edgar F. Copell, Traffic Engineer,
will request approval of the installation of a four-way ~lashing beacon
at the Junction of Chickering Road and Main Street from the Board cf
Commissioners if the town will agree ~o pay the monthly power bill for.
the electric current necessary to operate. The board voted unanimously
to make this agreement and will ifiform Mr. Cope!l.
STATE BOARD OF HOUSING:
Hearing held at 8:00 P.M. in the Court Room and the Board of Selectmen
adjourned so that they mifht attend this hearing.
At the close of the meeting, Director Foley informed Mr. Thomson that
the board would send a decision on the hearing as s~on as possible.
Phillip Nichols presided as Chairman and the other members of the board
were Joseph E. Higgins and Emil Vlasok. John Foley, was also present.~
CHIEF OF FIRE ENGINEERS:
The matter of the amoUnt to be {nserted in the Finance Committee's report
for the Chief engineer, if he ia to be'full time was discussed. Mr.l.j-
Salisbury stated he would like to see and article inthe town warrant~tO
see if the town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to set a full time
salary for the VhiefEngineer on the, same basis as the Chief of~Police.
Mr. Thomson brought the matter up stating that when the Finance Committee
worked on the budget figures, it was histhought that they were to make
~a no~ation of the report that $2~47 would be added to the amouht-asked.
by the Fire Engineers with the notation that this would be appropriated
if th~ ~hief engineer was to be full. time. The board agreed to have ·
this chan§e made on the Advisory Board copy andMr. Rockwell's,copy.
PERMANENT WAR M~t0RIALCO~ITTEE:
Chairman~JohnA. Cronin, chairman,.informed the Selectmen that the~
*Committee was in favor of building an athletic field on P~rker Street
and Chickering Road on abou%16-acres of land now Owned~'by the town;
When' completed the project would include playing fields, field house,
grand stand, parkingarea, etc., and completed would cost an estimated?.~
$100,000. The committee further recommended that a committee be appointed
and be authorized to secure money from the Federal Works Agency for
.planning this project.
Edward Gar~ey who was present informed the board thattheyshould not'~i
let the war memorial be prolonged. --
An article will be placed in the town warrant and the people.will decide

WARRANT CLOSED:
The Selectmen declared the Warrant clo~ed on this day.
BOARD OF~ FIRE ENGINEERS:
Mr. Car~y reported tothe board that G~ogan's field, was ready for sp~aying
and the hoard asked that the Fire~Engineers be,mct£fiedthat it canbe/
sprayed any time which is conve~ientfor the Fire Department and.when~he
weather is suitable ~for this wor~.
WIRINGINSPECTOPJ:
The matter of appointing a Wiring Inspector was discussed and thebcard
voted to request information from the State Fire Marehall in regard to
this matter and to see whom the duty should fall upon also in regard.~to
salary. Fire Marshall is Edward H. Whittemore.
CHAPTE~ 90:
The tentative 1947 Chapter 90 allotments for this town were received
and a request made that as soon asaction is taken by the town' in this
matter, that an attested copy of the ~town vote be sent to the Department
of Public Works.
INSURANCE:
A £orm on ~ro~f of loss for the amount of $628.65 was received in.this
office, to'be notarized and si~ned and the above amount will then be f?rwarded
to the company. This was for ~age caused by fire to the Highway truc~.
