The ~egu!ar weekly meeting o f the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M.
with sll members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.

A Juror was drawn by Arnold H. Salisbury to serve as s traverse Juror in
Lawrence Superior Court on March 5, 1947. John J. Coetel!o,Sr., 17 Mer?~ack
Street, Molder was drawn to serve.

A petition for the abandonment of 2 Joi6t poles on Great Pond Road as shown
on plan 1099, was received from the ~bove company. NO hearing is required,
only action by this board. A motion was made and seconded that the petition
be granted and vote was unanimousl
HUSBAND& WIFE P~EASE: ..
E release from Mary A. and Daniel J. ~onovan of 23 Maple Ave. was rece{v~.
for the amount of $46.00 for doctor's services rendered to Mrs. Donoven for
a broken~ arm which she received as the.result of a fall on an icy unsanded

The Boa~d of Selectmen voted to refer the matter of titles along Sutton Street,
where a fatal accident occurred recently, to C. J. Mahoney ~for. his investigation
of such titles. The street line.was laid o~t by Essex County in 1917 and
before the board takes any action in regard to widening the street at this.:
point they want tobe 'sure of the titles and Just how much is Owned by ..
the town. h~. Mahoneywill report to this board in the near future.
POLICE CHIEF-INTERNAL P~ SERVICE:
A l%tter was received b~ this hoard commending Chief McKee' for information
which he forwarded to the Internal Revenue Service,~Alcohol.Tax unit, and'~which
prgved to be valuable to this service. ~ .-

DAMAGE CLAi~.
Fred DiPrima of 27 Brook Street, Lawrence, came beforethe board to ag~
the payment of a calim' for damages ~o his car, caused bythe North Andover
Fire Truck, while he was parked in Lawrence. This had been discussed in November
of 1946 and he had been instructed to go before the Fire Chief in Lawren6~ to
see if they 'would pay for these repairs, and if n6t, ~o return to.this board..
The board voted to apy this bill and obtain a release from Mr. DiPrima.
In discussing the matter, Mr~ Salisbury brought up the question of whether
or~not this board could legally pay a bill of this type. Mr. Salisbur~then
made a motion that we refer this question to GL J. Mahoney to determineif
· this board may undertake such bills that may come in, in the future. Thdmotion
was seconded and voted unanimously.·
However, inchecking t~e records later, it. was found thnt this question'~adbeen
raised by Mr. Salisbury in November and at that time was referred to Mr. Mahoney
who sent a ruling to this board on November 23, 194~, which~il~ be presented to
the board at the next meeting.

:of Mrs. Catherine McMann, was held at 7:30 P.M. There was no oppositionL.
presented and the board votedunanimous!y to grant thisrequest and to
instruct Mr.~ Conners to remove this tree.
PROCL.~ATION-!947-Governor Bradford:
A proclamation issued by the Governor was read by Mr. Thomson, relating to
the American Legion Membership Drive. It was to be inserted in the Tribune but
due to a paper shortage, George Cu!len, could'not put any special notice in.

A petition and order covering the-abandonment of 21 poles on various streets
as shown on plan 1103, was received. No 'hearing was required and the board
voted unanimously to grant this request. Boston Road and JobnsonS~reet
were listed.
