Bids were received from the Flxible Company, C? E. Budd,.Regional Manager.of 87 Coleman Road, Wethersfield, Conn. complete price being $5401. at the factory. Delivery to North Andover would cost an additional $125.00 The bid from the Wm. J. Troy Company, William Blanchard, Manager, of'6 Gl'e~ville Terrace, Boston 34, was for $5243. delivered in Boston and delivery to he.in~ approximately .three months from date of order. After due consideration of the bids the committee voted to award the bid ~to . the Wm. J. Troy Company and the committee inspected the Andover ambulance ' which was brought over 'to the North Andover Fire Station by the Firs'Chief" of Andover. Ail agreed that it was a good Job and were well pleased. The committee voted to have a maroon ambulance. Mr. Salisbury made a motion that we accep~the bid of the Wm. Troy Comph~y. subject to.inspection of tbs Andcver ambulance,in accordance with the specifications attached. Vote was ~nimous. · .F.W. CARNIVAL REQUEST: . After Mr. Salisbury-explained this matter: to the board, they decided to have the lights installed as suggested in their. letter of December, 16, 1946 to the Board of Selectmen. _ .... '" 2.97 APRIL 21 1' '7- continued:: Wi~ENING SUTTON STREET: The Selectmen received s letter from the Advisory Board informing, that their hoard does not approve of a major expenditure as required for widening Suttong Street and feels ~hat this is a matter which should be properly brought ~fore'the next Annual Town Meeting, together with other projects and points corresponding danger and hazard to motorists. ' ~The Advisory Bosrd approves the sum of $200 for immediate proptection of Sutton Street area b,y means of an appropriate fence and warning sign of protective measures. The Board voted to rsfer this matter to Oornalius J. Mahoney for an opinion as to whether the town has the right to fence off this area as proposed. No action was taken on the removal of the %roes at this point of Sutton Street PERMISSION TO USE OAA OFFICE: Donald Thomson was granted permission to use the Old Age Assistance Office :o hold s meeting of the Memorial Day Committee. EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS ST. RAILWAY CO: N~tice received that on Sunday May 4, there will be an average increase of l&% charged by this company. The letter stated that this was done with great reluctance but under the statute defining public control and management 'of this compsny we have no option, as Section 8 of Chapter 98 reads, and Section 8 was quoted in their letter. Official announcement of this necessity will be made on April 21, in the 'daily papers hut the company felt'that this board was entitled to t he courtesy in advance. No action was taken b y the board. PLANNING BOARD NOTICE: ~: Notice received that a public hearing will be 'held on May 2, 1947 at 7:30 P~ in the Town Building for consideration by the board of s proposed amendment to the Zoning by-laws by changing the classification of the following property from a residence to abusinass district: Northerly side of Great " Pond Road, t00 feet westerly from the westerly side of Cooke Stre'~t. Thomson met at 8:45 P.M. ~ith Mr. Finneran sitting in with them, to discuss the procedure thay would follow in revising the tcwn by-laws as voted at the annual To~n Meeting in March of 1947. Mr~'Sa!isbury stated that they would probably be expectedto hold public hear- ~ihgs later on and suggested that letter be sent ~o all towns in the Common- wealth and rsques~ a copy of their by-laws. He also stated that each member · %aka time to look through the town report, zoning by-laws end building-laws pamphlets which were given to each member, o .. ~Mrj"Donovan felt that ho'could havethis work done at the High School by the students and the Selectmen will provide the stationar2yand postage. Mr. Bingham, will be so notified. MEETING ADJOURNED: ~--T~e reg~ekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. with Members Finaeran and Salisbury present. Chairm~n Thomson was unable to attend as hewas out of town.. Weakly bills and payrolls were approved. JUROR DRAWN: ~,.Josgph Finaeran drew the name of James J.Lane of ll6 UntonStreet to serve as a,~uror at Lawrence Superior. Court on May 19, 1947 - criminal busin~ss. Juror is an operative. VETERANS' HOUSING: Russell Donnelly and about fourteen other veterans appeared before the board ~to again discuss Quonset Huts. Mr. Donnelly'explained that he and others had met with the Veterans' Housing Committee recently and they instructed them- ,.to come before this board. A letter had been received from Mr. Alter, chairman of the above committee stating that the board was in favor of having a temporary housing project such as quonset huts, if there were sufficient veterans' who would be willing to live in them. This matter would have to be taken up befor the town at a special town meeting. Mr. Donnelly stated he had visited the huts at Beverly and some of them were He said the huts would cost $2300 unit, end said th@ ~v~s were paying to the
