Ernest Summers informed the board that he had seen the huts at Quincy and was well satisfied with them. Mr. Salisbury read a letter from the State Board of Housing which was received by this board after the public hearing held in NorthAndover o n Veterans' Housing. Mr. Salisbury suggested that we hold a meeting next Monday evening at 7:30 P.M..in the Se!ectmen's Office and invite the Advisory BoarS, Planning ' Board, Veterans' Housing Committee, Ira D. Carty, William D. Dully and C. Mahocey to discuss this project and make plans for a special town meeting ~o be held in the near future, and discuss the location for these huts if we plan to go throughwith the project. Mr~ Salisbury suggested that Mrs.'Dearden write for specifications on~ts from Grossman and Expor~ Packaging Inc..Bran~ord, Conn and Quincy, Mass. and have them for Monday .evening; also that we ask Grossman at Quincy to send a representative to our meeting. The Veterans'~ stated that they thought Grogan's Field would be an ideal place for this village andinquiry will be made at Davis & ~ber to see if'their offer is still available. Mr. Salisbury mentioned the sandbank as a suitable site and asked that Mr. Ritchie be contacted to see if the price on filling in the sandbank is still good. He also suggested that there would be many angles ~o be ~ considered and that we should have C. E. Mahoney presentat this meeting. Mr. Salisbury arranged a meeting at his office on Friday afternoon, May 2, with two of the Veterans and he planned ~to~have Mr. ~ahoney present. Mr. Donnelly then suggested that he be allowed to ask thetrepresentative of Grossmans ~c meet with them on Friday and this was agreeable to Mr.' Salisbury. LETTER OF ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND ACCEPTANCE: A letter acceptment the appointment as a .member of the Advisory Committee for the'Revaluation Survey was received from EmiI Boulanger of 54 Saunders~Street. DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS: A questionnaire annually madeout by this office was filled in and returned to the board in Boston. Ail employees are covered by insurance and none. were paid directly from the town treasury. · PETITION FOR SPECIAL TOWN ~EETING: A petition signed by Mary 0.' DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WOR~S: Letter received informed the board that the'Commissioners have allotted under the provision of Sec. 34, Chapter 90 of the General La~s, Ter~:Ed; {hei~s'~ of $7,250 for the improvement~of Water Street'in North~Andover, on.condition that at least $3,625 shall be contributed by-the town and $3,625 bythecounty. A second letter stating that the Commissioners have allotted under theisame provisions that the sum of $500 for the maintenance of Chapter 90 roads'in · North Andover, on condition that at least $1,000 shall be contribute6bythe' town. Letter from Fred Fair, Department business Agent enclosing a carbon cspy of an order drawn o~ this townin favor of ~. F. White Contracting Company~for the sum cf $6,370.75 on account of work done under contract ~ith the ~own. Mr. Kupsor estimated the cost of setting .... up/a~hut atabout $200, Mr. Kupsor'answered several questions from Mr. Thomson, Mr!i'~lisbu~y and Mr~Sunder!and. '~/~Mr.~Arthur Sunderland of the Advisory Board stated' that'he h~d received ~information which indicated that the cost per hut would be$3,000 if the owner ~f~rhi~hed the labor and $4,000with the labcrfurnished. He had bee~ ~61d that. ~the huts have been torn ou~ of cement foundations and that~some~ wiring may not be~.a~cep~able. ~ cornelius j. Mahoney stated that he had beenL informed that the cost would run ~f~om~.$3,0OOto $4,000. John'Wi!lis asked for information cna breakdown of the cost and a!~o inquired where these huts were set up. .~M~.~?homson then inquired if there were any more questions regarding these J.h6t~ and if not he would goon with the hearing. ~Mr~iThomson introduced Mr. K. V. Wolsey who presented information on pre-fabri4 cated houses. Mr. Wolsey s~&ted that the~cost of these houses is $6,000 and gave description of one. They are set on concrete barsand bare four rooms '4?%~'~fi~i~hed and a bathroom. He said tha~ the home mentioned isoapproved for .~i~25..year financin~ by the FHA. He gave detailed information on these homes and said they could be erected in from three to four weeks. He told those .~resent that sewers, water, gas and all 'fixtures are included and are very sound architecturally. 'There would be no ~change in cost if a large number Were.built. Mr;'Thmmson then called on John Alter/~Irmsn of the Veterans' Housing Committee and asked if he felt that from thei~ survey, mcct sf ~the veterans fo!table to buy a home. Mr. Alter stated that most of the veterans were ready for renting not buying.
