HomeMy WebLinkAbout1947-07-14310 XUL¥ 14, 1947- continued RESIGNATION OF JAMES DUNN: A letter of resignation from the positions on the Planning Board, the Board of Appeals and the Veterans Housing Commission was received and is to be effective on July 8, 1947. Mr. Dunn has accepted a position with a firm of Patent Attorneys in Washington D. 0. The Board accepted the resignation with regret and will hold a meeting with Planning Board and the Board of Appeals,to fill this vacancy, on July 28, 1947 at 7:45 P.M. Mr. Mahoney will be contacted to see if he has appointed a new member to fill this vacancy in the Veterans Housing Commission. ~ letter will be sent to Mr. Dunn. Selectmen' s file. BIT.?. FOR SANDBANK HELD UP: The board dis'&6ssed the bill for the sandbank filling and requested that Mr. Oary come before the board ~o explain the cost of $500 and the amount of filling dumped into the sandbank. Mr. Oar~ty had previously stated that this $500 would cover' the cost of filling and hauling same to the 'S~ndhank~ and he felt that it would fill. in' a good· portion, cf it. However, the members believed that. the sandbank was to be' completely filled in and wanted~ to discuss this matter with Mr. Garry. He will come in at 7:15. P.M. JOSEPH LUMEN~.r,T.O LETTE~- PLAYGROUND: A letter was',received from Mr. Lumenello regarding the 'playgrounds, an~ the work'remaintng-.to be completed and he also stated that he had talked:with- Wi~l~sm"B. Duffy who stated that they have no appropriation for this work or any other incidentals required. Mr. Carry informed him' that there was no sand which could he' u~sed'~for the: purpose required~', ~e believe~ that this should received immediate attentions. · The board unanimously to allow $60.00. ~o be .paid from th~,~contingent 'fund and suggested that'.Mr. Pin, atari.take this matter up with Mr. Lumen~lo. SELECTMEN' S ASSOCIATION:' · A letter was receive~ from"this'association"informiffg the'board that G~s~ve: "Weigal,' ~r, of 32 ,Herrick' Road had 'attended the American Legion Boy State Week at State University, Ambers't on ~une 22 to July 2 'and-felt that', it!:; would be a .fine ~hing if the board invited him to attend a meeting soon and tell the .board of some of his experiences.." 'The hoard voted, to do this. and write to Mr. Weigel and ask him to attend the meeting On .August' 11, '1947 ~t $:00 SUTTON STREET -NEAR HIGH-'"SIGNS Mr. Salisbury brought up the matter of the warning sign on Su.tton Street..'~, near High Street which is in a very poor condition and'suggest'~dl'that a 'new'' one be erected. He also suggested that a white strip be painted on,the road in the center and on the northerly side to guide motorists around ~he bend which he considers dangerous. The B_ard agreed that thisshould be done and Mr.. Carry .will be contacted to see what he can do about it. Th~s may be'a ~m~tter for the Police Department. PRECINCT' OFFICERS:, The board discussed the matt%r 6f:.appointing the ~recinot'0ffi'cers and they voted to con~act the chairman of the two Poli¢ical Parties in town as.. required under Chapter 363,TM as amended, which was approved on May 31'; 1945, askLng for a list of e~rolled members of each party who desire appointments. There is no chairman of the Democratic Party at present but a letter was sent.to Mr. -Tom Ingram, chairman of the Republican purty~ Appointments will be mad8 at the meeting on July 28,' 1947. MEETING ADJOURNED: The bi-monthly meeting of the Board of Selectmen Was'hel~ at 7:00 P.M. with Members Thomson and.Finneram present. Mr. Salisbury was out of the state and could not attend. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. BW.T. FOR PILL AT SANDBANK: Mr. Carry was present' at the meeting and informed the ~oard that Mr. Driscoll informed him that he would sell the fill from Water Street, to the town at$.25 per yard and he would have about 2,000 yards. ~r. Thomson'inquired if Mr. Carry contemplated that this fill would completely fill in the sandbank and Mr. Carry said no, that it would fill a good' part of it.
