HomeMy WebLinkAbout1947-09-29SEPTEMBER 2~ :1' '7: The regular weekly meeting of the Board of SELECTMEN was held on this day at 7:00 P.M. with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. AMBULANCE: Chief James Hargreaves of the Fire Department came before the board and told them that the ambulance would be delivered on Wednesday and that. he would like to,have a special voucher and warrant made out so that payment could be made a~ once. Mr. Salisbury stated he was willing to accept the ambulance if Chief Hargreaves felt that it was in perfect order for delivery. Mr. Thomson suggested that the Chief contact Mr. Rockwell who was on the committee for the purchasing of the ambulance and s~ggest that he look over the ambulance when it is delivered and Mr. Thomson and Mr. Finnersn will also be on hand. Mr. Salisbury will try and get over here to !ook at it. ~W~ENCE GAS & ELECTRIC C0~ANY: A request from this company for permission to excavate to install gas-service for Joseph Label at 56 Railroad Avenue, 15 feet on street. The board voted ly.~t~grant this request. NEW ENGLAND TEL. & TEL. CO. A~petition and plan # 6 for permission to erect one pole on Boxford Street, approximately 4524 feet east of Forest Street. A hearing will.be held on October 20, 1947 at 7:30 P.M. on this petition. Abutters will be notified. bUTDOOR .ADVERTISING AUTHORITY: ~Letter received informing the board tha~ the F.H. Birch Co. Inc. has made application for permits for outdoor advertising signs which are now~16cated -.on ~the sides of buildings at 61 Water St (2) and 85 Main Stree{ (1). The letter states that within thirty days, this board may file any objections to /these locations with this Authority. TREE REMOVAL REQUEST: ~.~-J~hn J. Connors, tree warden, came before th~ board and explained m.that the tree which was requested to be removed last week, .by William Tullis, of Union.Street, is on private land end he .cannot remove it. The board voted to.'inform Mr..~11ts 'that the tree· could not be removed by the tree warden as it is on private land. G~atano Midola of 15 Glanwood Ave. came before the board to ask if something ~':could be done about his street. There are holes where the water collects and they are dangerous at night. The board voted to refer this matter to Mr. Carry and to check on the street and see if it is aris ccepted stre~et. BY*LAWS CO~,~ ITTEE: Mr; Salisbury. suggested that a meeting of the By-Laws committee be held on ~,..0~ctober 6, 1947 at ~:15 P.N. and get started on this work of revising the by- e....-' laws.' OFFICE OF THE SE6RETARY: :The'.board approved certif£cat~ of incorporation for James Terret of 52 Beverly 'Street, North Andover, and others (not residents of North, Andover) after Chief .McKee had made an investigation as requested by the Selectmen. .BURIAL LOT IN.HOLY SEPULCHRE CEMETERY: Mr.~.Thomso~'brought up the matter of burial of a.veteran in this cemetery and 'said.that he had been contacted~by.Dona!d Thomson, Commander of ~be American · egion. Father Edmund Daly would like to have written permisJion from this board. so that there would not be a recux~ence of the unknown person who'was buried in'that cemetery as a veteran. Mr. Thomson feltthat the Selectmen hod no authority to say who would be buried there but he was willing to give written :,~permission providinggthe town assuses no responsibility for.the bur~al. Mr. Thomson suggested that we get the deed from Town Clerk Eoseph Duncan whom heyhad Just coDtacted, and see what the rules and regulations.are and who~id for. the lot. Mr. Finneran agree~ that.the Selectmen could give a letter without · assuming the responsibility for~the burial and the Grave Registration 'Officer · ,should make certaintha~the person was a vemeran. Mr. Salisbury was not present at this discussion as he had to leave early.
