Mr. Salisbury stated that he was ~oubtful about our right ~o sell this ambulance and that it would probably have.to be voted on by the ~own. He suggested tha~ we ask ¢. J. Mahoney for an opinion and if the vote of the townisrequired, we could then insert an article in the wsrran~ for the.next special townmeetfng, This was agreeable with the other members of the board. POLICE DEPART:&ENT- CIVIL SERVICE LIST: Chairman Thomson read a letter received fromThomasJ. Greehan, Director of Civil Service, referring to the provisional employment of ~Frsnk~H. Dushame and Everett R. Woodhouse as patrolmen, The letter'informed the board that the only person eligible forappointment as a police officer is Norman M.~Fleming,of. 2 Second Street who attained a mark of 87.08.~ Mr. Thomson informed the other members that Mr. Fleming had called on him and made it known that he'was available fdr this position. Mr. Greehan's letter further stated that the provisional appdintments'of Messrs. Dushame and Woodhouse are hereby-terminAted~Authority isalsc given in the letter for the provisional employment of Messrs Dushame and Weodhouse for a period of thirty days from today as Patrolmen. Theboard then decided, to hold this matter over until all other business--before the board was completed. Mr. Thomson stated thatthis is a matter which concerns the towngreatly and .... he felt that a letter to OivilService-would be in order. TOWN REPORTS: "~? Mr. Salisbury brought up the matter of town reports and presented a report of 110 pages which was printed at a cost of $625.00. much'more expensive than that andMr. Salisburyfelt that we should~ins{£tute a practice of asking for bids for our next reports. Mr. Thomson then suggested that when the time comes for reports to be printed this matter shbuld lbs. kep~ in mind and'called to.the attention of the board. SELLING USED EQUIPMENT: "::' Edward Garvey came before tbs board and asked if they ever instructed the Depar~men~ Heads .to dispose of used equipment byasking for bids. Mr. Salisbury.informed Mr. Garvey that the board had Just voted to'ask C. J. An office of the Veterans' Reemployment Rights Division~UJS. Dept. of Labor has been established at 294 Washington St. Boston and it is desired that local and district Directors of Veterans' Services act as liaison between that office and the veteransof the local communities.
