NOVEMBER~. 1947:::
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M.
withall members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
TREE REMOVAL HEARING:
A hearing was held on the petition of Lucy Prescott of 70 Prescott Street
for the removal of a large tree in front of her ~roperty. Tree was posted
and no opposition was received. The Board Voted unanimously to instruct the
tree warden to remove the tree.
INVITATION-AMERICAN LEGION:
An invitation to participate in the Armistice Day Exercises on November 11,
was received from the American Legion, Post 219 and the board voted to
acknowledge invitation and accept withthanks.
DAMAGE CLAIM:
The Board voted .to ask for a bill for damage caused by one of the Highway
Department trucks to a bicycle owned by Robert McMurray, 19'Little Road.
The Board voted to pay for the damage if the bill is sent to this office~
and a release will be signed.
NEW ENGLAND TEL. & TEL.CO.- LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC CO:
A public hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the petition of the above companies
covering 1 proposed Joint pole and abandonment of 1 light pole on Tavernr
Road. Mr. Flanagan and Mr. Barry were .present from the above companies'.~The
Board voted unanimously to grant this petition.
RECREATIONAL COUNCIL:
Rev. Ralph D. York came before the board and requested that the hoard6invite
Ralph Brasseur to attend the meeting of the Council on November 5, 1947 at
7:30 P.M. in the Tow~ Building. He discussed rinks with Mr. Salisbury who
informed Rev. York that a special town meeting would be necessary to raise
the money for the skating rinks. This project would 'not be considered an
· emergency and the money could not be transferred from~the Reserve Fund~~
POLICE DEPARTMENT: - '
Mr. Salisbury informed the board .that he had spent .som~ time with Mr;%Qreehan
Director of Civil Service discussing the letter received b~,~his board 'from
Civil Service relative to an examination to beihald sometime in the furze.
Mr. Qreehan stated that he would beunable.to ascertain how soon an~exam'ination
could be held until he found out how many towns reported that~ they ha~ ~und.'
themselves in the same position as this town. Re stated-that if there, are enough
towns requesting~minations then one state mide examination would be held but
if there are only two or three towns requesting examinations then ~he Depsmtment
would give a local examination. However,'Mr. Greehan stated that he is~ unable
to determine Just when such examination would be held. A re-examintion has,been
ordered for Everett Woodhouse in the near future. Mr. Woodhouse passed'.the
mental examination previously. Mr. Greehan knows that this board wants a larger
list andhe will notify us' when the examination is to be .held. No'furthero
action will be taken until we have some direct wor~from Mr. Oreehan~

Mr~ Salisbury suggeste~ that the By-Laws Com]~ittee meeting Which is Scheduled
to be held November 10, be postponed until November 17, 1947 at eight o'clock.
Members of'the committee will be notified.
TRANSFERS FROM RESERVE FUND:
The Advisory Board'approved the following transfers from the Reserve'Fund:
$1200 to the Forest Fire Appropriations
. $357.37 to the Insurance Appropriatic~ - ..
$200 tc the'Tree Wardens Salaries Appropriation
$100 to the Tree Wardens Expense appropriation. , -
Approvals were made on November 3, 1947.

A report of the audit of the accounts of the Town of North Andover from the
period from May 16, 1946 to July 19, 1947 was received from the Division of
Accounts~
